Except it was dark as hell in the theater also..

Not in two of the three auditoriums I saw it in. But the fact remains that it *is* overly dark at home, no denying that without manually adjusting the settings. I find it to be a minor inconvenience that is well worth it, but obviously we differ on that. :)

I usually find when I mess with the settings for films that are two dark (Godzilla 2014) the true blacks go away and look more grey which I am not a fan... Now I have not really messed with my settings for Solo on 4K since I am happy with all other films.

But even if it was brighter it still lacks that certain something for me that makes it feel like a SW film..

I still like it.. Just with TLJ and this I find myself in a very strange place when it comes to SW.. Hopefully the OT will be getting a 4k release very soon and that will get me all fanboyish again.

Star Wars shouldn't be bleak (Solo)... but it also shouldn't look like a Broadway cabaret (Snoke's lair).

The OT and the PT do match up pretty well in style and their color pallet. Rogue One looks most like a Star wars movie in its vivid 3rd act finale.

Out of all the PT I’ll alwy say Lucas should of just made rots. Give the characters more to do, have a better story and it could of been a great standalone. But I still love rots

Edit. Wait hold on this ain’t the Star Wars thread

This is gonna tank BIG time- people were groaning at the teaser when I saw AM...….why this was made is beyond me

why this was made is beyond me

THAT is the question of the year!

What is the budget for this?

I can't understand how the bean counters ever formulated a profitable scenario for this, unless they really do split this film into two parts and this "first" movie has no real fight and simply ends on a cliffhanger "pre-fight" set-up like Jye has surmised.

Anything over 1 million is too much.....LAME and we have seen these action beats and close ups of characters in angst like what....700 times in the last few years? You guys ting PR2 was a bomb? Just wait....

I think they saw the opening weekend Box Office for Godzilla 2014 and realize that it could have been bigger if the movie was better and word of mouth did not hurt and and a lack of repeat viewings..

Plus overseas these films end up being pretty big dont they.. Plus dont forget digital download and Blu ray sales..

But yeah its pretty shocking.

However I wont say it will do PR II bad becasue the trailers for that film were awful. I even found enjoyment out of it but the trailers sold a different movie that I almost did not go see becasue of that trailer.

Anyone who paid to go see AM should not be groaning at these teasers. Not bad mouthing AM wither.. Just if you go to see that film then you should not be above Godzilla :lol

One thing this has over PR is established characters. PR films are fun but they’re 100% new monsters with no existing fandom. This won’t do Marvel movie, but should be better than Kong or Godzilla 2014. Not only is the marquee monster famous, but the 3 main adversaries are equally famous.

Let's hope that's not the case here.

G14 did about what Kong did financially, right?... perhaps that's the saturation point for these kinds of movies.

That's what has me thinking the budget is a lot less than the $200M marketed -- or maybe that's for 2 films (the 2nd half deliberately not being mentioned yet).

People love watching the same thing over and over... AM is a great example... Another big end battle like LOTR.. More superhero fights and more everything that has been done to death.. But it was AM so I guess it felt fresh.

Agreed.. A better trailer and established monsters should help this do better then PR films.

That’s the thing, regardless of box office for this, Godzilla vs Kong should be well underway by the time this even hits theaters and should be released one way or the other. At this point, the only question around the success or failure of this film is whether the MonsterVerse continues beyond 2020, and for me, I’m indifferent if it doesn’t, and would be excited if it did. At the end of the day, I will have experienced one of my most treasured franchises get big budget Hollywood treatment and I loved every moment.
