A lot of the negatives complain about usual ****... Non developed humans. Convoluted story. Hard to follow action. etc etc. One even said the 98 Roland Emmerich film was better... :lol okay buddy.

All the positive reviews say it's exactly what you want from a Godzilla film. So it's right where you'd expect this movie to fall.

Yup.....

Cause you goto a Godzilla film for human drama and quality acting.....which is expected given the history of the franchise.

My concern is many say the CGI is bad.....which is crazy considering the short clips we have seen.

Also alot of folks saying the action mostly occurs in the dark..........
That sucks. Better see this in a properly calibrated theater.

Sent from the inside of a giant slug in outer space.....

Who cares about the humans. Although they seem to be critiquing the monster action just as much which does have me worried. Maybe 4dx isn’t the way to go [emoji1785][emoji2961] at least the movie still has trailer of the year which I will continue to watch [emoji51]

Yeah the darkness is concerning but as for the cgi being bad I’ve seen about as twice as many positive reviews stating how amazing the fight scenes and cgi are. And considering what we’ve been shown, I’m more inclined to believe them rather than the old togers whining about too much cgi.

I saw one review complaining...COMPLAINING that shots look like Frazetta paintings rather than realistic scenery. **** off ya **** :lol

Yeah the one thing this movie does have going for it is definitely the CGI although some are saying that the fights are too up close which I’m OK with but that the Kaiju move too fluid and fast destroying their scale which was one of my concerns from the trailers.

But that the plot, logic, character arcs, dialogue and narrative are all abysmal lol

I’ve seen that too and again, considering what I’ve been shown, it won’t bother me in the slightest. Slowing giant things down has always been a visual translation for scale in movies....but nothing of this size has ever existed so who’s to say how they move. Speed is always weird with giant things. I mean...just watch an Elephant run, it’s goofy as hell :lol that applies to me as well.

Yeah, a lot of the criticism doesn't make sense, very contradictory and it's weird that they're criticizing this movie for having things that they criticized the previous movie for lacking. And the guy who said this is the worst one ever, are you kidding me?

This is all I need, these are a couple of the guys in the group I’m seeing this with tomorrow and the sort of fans and opinions I can relate to.

With a 65 year old franchise and 30+ films, a critic liking or disliking aspects is bound to not line up with your own views, there is so much room for personal wants out of a movie like this where a critic could complain about something that ends up your favorite because of your differences.

Would I love glowing reviews for the franchise sake, sure, but the gist I take away from the cumulative feedback is that this film amounts to my expectation, human story on par with most sequels (face it, the non-kaiju stories were often flat and just a means to the monsters) and the monster action makes full use of technology to deliver.

Pretty much. That goes back to what I was saying about the critic complaining about the Frazettaesque scenery which to me is part of the grandeur I want. And I doubt any of the critics noticed or cared about the Akira I***ube aspects in the score. So it’s stuff like that where it can mean the world to us....but nothing to a critic. That’s why I always say **** em.

The only “problem” with stuff like rotten tomatoes and critics is the majority of the public that takes it as gospel and skips seeing it, resulting in the movie suffering financially...which means no more movies. It sucks. But you can’t fight it and as long as this movie delivers to me That’s fine.

Hopefully Goji v Kong still happens. It’s production has wrapped and I doubt they’re gonna toss it in the garbage if this movie underperforms, so we’ll at least get one more movie to round out the monster verse “saga”.

Given how far along GvK must be at this point, we're under a year from release, I think it's too far to ax it now, too much spent already, hell, we should have a teaser at SDCC given timelines, with a full trailer around Christmas.

A good critic will review a movie from the position of the art of filmmaking as a whole, and genre films like this often don't hit the mark in a lot of those areas, but for fans, that's not why we're into them in the first place.

I have probably 30-50 Godzilla figures in my collection, not one Godzilla film human, and the only human I have any desire to represent in my collection is the guy who wore the suit :lol

Yeah GvK should still happen. They might downscale some post budget but who knows. We shall see

The funny thing about critics is you almost need a critic for critics :lol. A genre critic will likely give you a better idea of what a movie is like based on what you’re looking to get out of it. A mass audience critic will say “too loud! Writing bad!” And move on, almost insulted that they had to review a giant monster movie. :lol

You have to translate a review that says “too much monster action! It sucks!” Into “ I love monster action. that sounds great to me. I will like this” It’s too much work. That’s why I vastly ignore them most of the time. Curiosity gets the better of me though. Oh well.

Unfortunately, after the slew of featurettes early yesterday, social media and forums have been taken over by reviews, actually movie info and discussion has died, so it's hard not to check some out.

These reviews make me feel confident.

I definitely won’t watch those lol but I will after I see it. I try not to read too much because it seeps into my brain as I’m watching and changes my thought on the movie.

Only a few more days then we can get back to discussions on the actual movie. Until Jye brings up the financial performance that is :lol cumere, Jye you lunk

What day are you seeing it Maul?

First showing is tomorrow night at 7pm in IMAX 2D, then again on Saturday at 3pm in regular 2D.

Guys my concern is that geeks like us are tearing the movie part that’s what bugs me

True... But there are many geeks like us that are raving about it also.

I will wait and see obviously.

As for the size and speed of the monsters not matching up... there has only been one shot in the trailers that looked bad... everything else looks top notch.

”.

Excellent points... especially about the Akira score... average Joe critic won’t appreciate those moments...

It would be great to get a Godzilla film where I enjoy the human story as much as the monsters... it’s yet to happen for me. Even the original... I love it but don’t really love the human story... not for repeat viewings anyways.
