True... But there are many geeks like us that are raving about it also.

I will wait and see obviously.

As for the size and speed of the monsters not matching up... there has only been one shot in the trailers that looked bad... everything else looks top notch.

To me, that last shot that they use very often where Godzilla and Gidorah are running at each other it looks like they're moving too fast, but I'm not sure that is how it will be perceived in the theater, it may even be sped up in the trailer.

Saw it today. Loved it. Didn't mind the humans, but that wasn't what I was there for. Apart from big G, Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra, every other kaiju are pretty much cameos. I'm not up on my G lore enough to name any of them (I really have no idea if the Giant woolly mammoth and the MUTO looking ones are Toho originals, or just made up for the film) They're obviously sowing the seeds for K V G because they mention skull island A LOT.

Legit goosebumps moment when they use the original Toho theme.

Well I will be there first show like the good little Godzilla series fan that I am.

I already know the visuals will be amazing so hopefully the battles deliver the goods.

Guys my concern is that geeks like us are tearing the movie apart that’s what bugs me

As you well know just from this site, the world is full of geeks, there are thousands of members in this forum and like 12 of us regularly in this thread talking about this movie, doesn’t make the people not in here less geeky or more geeky. I consider myself a big geek but there’s plenty of geeky stuff I don’t care for.

Just got out of the IMAX screening few hours ago. Bit of a long read but let's get this out of the way: first two halves or so are clunky, all over the place with some weak characters and convenient plot devices with monster action spread throughout. It feels like it follows a generic summer blockbuster template until it starts to find its footing. It's in the 3rd act, the main event, that it delivers on the classic monster action you want, oh it absolutely ****ing does deliver as well as being better structured. Anyone that says the monster action in G14 was better must have left before it finished or something. I liken it to a big boxing/UFC ppv - the undercard may be a bit forgettable, crowd start to get restless, but the co and main event end up being FOTY contenders and you leave smiling.

The characters are no worse than any from Pacific Rim or Skull Island, yet they are rated much higher. Saying that, Serizawa is the best character here and has a emotional moment with the big guy. I think the problem is that in giving us more of everything, we also get a bit too many humans as a result. Military characters need to be binned completely. People need to stop expecting nuanced and JP1 like characters in a ****ing Kaiju film. It's worrisome now because it's going to send the wrong message to the film-makers that people want more humans over monsters when the same ones were crying over not enough monsters in G14. :slap

I don't think I have any complaints about the monsters (at least, right now) and all four have good amounts of character, incredible size and scale. The CGI on them was good, even more so during the final battle with some stunning up close shots. The special effects on the non monster stuff was nothing special but you know where the effort went to here.

Ghidorah was evil and cunning and had personality. The three heads all work together and he had Godzilla on the ropes a few times. The left head was the less obedient one and the dominant head at times kept nudging at him like as if he wasn't paying enough attention or something, lol. I wish they kept the same music from the 5 minute IMAX preview during his awakening, but that's a small complaint.

Mothra doesn't have much screen time but she's handled with respect like the classic Mothra you know and love from the old films. Graceful and beautiful just like she should be. She has an interesting interaction with Godzilla near the end. Plus she can put up a hell of a fight.

Rodan probably has best entrance out of them all. He's a bit of a prick and a lackey with an attitude problem. So not much change then. :lol

So it gets a 4/5 from me because the 3rd act delivers and the monsters are done so well. The after credits tease had some youngsters near me yell a certain something's name in excitement, and I have to say I felt the same way (it's probably not what you expect but it's still hype). As for Kong, he's not touching G unless he gets a power up or superman helps him because **** me, G is too OP in his you know what form.

Dammit. I didn't hang back for a post credits scene, as I thought they were doing their set up over the first half of the credits. Anyone feel like telling me what it is? (In spoiler tags of course)

Charles Dance's character is with his men in some underground place. He's lead to something and the camera pans up to reveal it's one of Ghidorah's severed heads that still remains and wasn't completely destroyed by Godzilla. He looks up and says "We'll take him", and then it ends.

They're probably going to try and revive him since he can regenerate heads (which was a cool scene itself) and make Mecha Ghidorah!

The Baldy is finally back! :yess:

I have mixed feelings on whether or not I want to see this since I did not care for the 2014 film at all. If Ghidorah is as good as you say then it might be worth a go.

Love these positive reviews from you guys, the regular reviews were getting me down.

Please remember spoiler tags, prob wont get to see it till next week now....

Adulting till then.

He literally said it’s a movie any 5 year old can follow and enjoy.

Couldn’t he have at least said 10 year old to make me feel better lol

Well, to be frank, it is my inner 5 year old that is excited for this movie, the kid who used to make all the roars of these monsters playing and pretending pteranadon toys were Rodan because he didn't have one and seeing Ghidorah heads and necks in tree branches he found and burying Godzilla figures in dirt and rocks re-enacting favorite scenes. I love this franchise because it gives me a joy on a childhood level, why else would giant monsters fighting and smashing building be entertaining.
