Yamazaki doesn't seem keen on doing a vs film without a lot of work. He recently commented that having Godzilla vs something adds challenges to having a human story as compelling as what he came up with for Minus One, so I would say, if he helms another film, it'll either be another solo adventure, or the greatest vs film ever in the franchise.

I’m just glad they finally moved away from suit acting.

Fun for when we were kids but it couldn’t be taken seriously at all and still can’t.

Plus remember that Nakajima, Satsuma and Kitagawa suffered immensely in those damn suits and Kitagawa almost drowned twice in the infamous big pool.

Now the cgi workers suffer lol

And we have lost two out of 3 of them.

I wonder if he'd just stick to new origin stories for Toho monsters? Maybe a new take on Rodan for example?

Once they establish enough new monsters, then maybe set up a versus storyline.

Saw this yesterday with the family. Really enjoyed it and I think my wife enjoyed it more than the kids! (she's not huge into genre movies - particularly monster movies). Good character arcs with some nice setups and payoffs. Yeah, the lead was sometimes a bit wooden but I thought he portrayed trauma pretty well. Loved the boat crew. Really loved Godzilla. Great sense of scale and menace. The VFX overall were really solid too. Overall, glad I saw this on the big screen instead of streaming.

Alright ticket acquired. I really doubt I'll like this version better than the color one, but I am curious to see what it's like. And any excuse to see the movie again is a good one.
I'm intrigued by an all black and white version because I already felt like they did a good job with it as a WWII area period piece. That should really sell the timeframe!

So besides writing and directing, Yamazaki also did the VFX specifically?

Yes, this movie is his baby on nearly every level. That's why he's hands on on with all of the collectibles too, he is highly invested.

Here's a comparison that was posted on twitter showing the difference between simply turning frames from the movie to black and white vs what the Minus Color frame looks like.

For those interest in seeing the Minus Color edition, just a heads up, the number of AMC theaters around me showing it are much less than the original cut, and those that are listing it are only listing 1 showing per day, so seems like you might want to make sure you find a time and get it booked. I'm going to wait and hope the Minus Color cut is made available in home release.
