Broderick Godzilla proved that.
That was a huge part of it for sure.

They took his personality away also.

Speaking only for myself I do find it hard to sit through many of the older films but I can always watch the Godzilla scenes. The Suitmation in those films are an art form that catches my imagination for sure.

Of the Toho films I can still watch from start to finish

Original Run

Godzilla 1954
Godzilla vs Mothra
Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster
Son of Godzilla - Guilty pleasure but I like the overall feel and look of the film. I hate the Godzilla suit though

90’s Run

Godzilla vs Biollante
Godzilla vs Destroya

Godzilla: Minus 1

This movie was dumb. But like the last one, was fun. It was a kid smashing Godzilla and King Kong toys together for two hours. And was awesome. This one had friends come over to join him.

This movie doesn’t make a damn bit of sense why things happen. Hollow Earth is just nonsense and the black dude figuring it all out because someone had to.

Godzilla was barely in it. And couldn’t hit **** with his pink breath!

they should have gave Kong a GOLD tooth!

But I felt robbed. And when Rome and the Pyramids got leveled and they showed Rio I thought for sure that Jesus statue was going to get wrecked. On Easter weekend of all things!!! But no….. they chickened out. Srsly….

I guess I'm curious how Godzilla remains a favorite of the sci-fi/action/adventure/fantasy crowd here.

I mean, we all mostly grew up with the same things, so many of which have been left behind. No one here breaks down old Disney cartoons, or 1966 Batman episodes, or the myriad of stuff that was left behind from our childhood... yet somehow Godzilla got pulled along into adulthood. Many here race to the theater to see a Godzilla movie with as much relish as the next John Wick or James Bond movie. I cannot compartmentalize Godzilla in with even the most fantastic fantasy movies like Star Wars and Pirates. And as a kid -- 9-12 -- I was a Godzilla fanatic.
For me. I loved dinosaurs. Godzilla was a big dinosaur who was super strong and fought other monsters. He could go from a good guy to a bad guy and to neutral . He had so many cool toys and cool video games. His movies were just fun rent movies to watch at over the weekend at your grandparents house. Also the design and overall development is fun

I get it. I just left that all behind after I turned 13.

Well that was supremely, jaw-droppingly stupid.... but also surprisingly very watchable. 😄

The story was completely insane, and it felt like the writers' only directive was to cram as many ridiculous, far-fetched ideas and plot contrivances as they possibly could into one movie. And by this point the Monsterverse has completely left behind any trace of believability.

But that said, I can't deny the visual spectacle and constant monster fights did keep me fairly engaged throughout. And Kong still remains a cool character that is pretty fun to watch when he's kicking ass.

A little strange though that there was this huge long buildup for Godzilla... who basically comes across as just another monster in the final battle that the villain barely acknowledges. And seriously, are there any famous landmarks still standing in this world by this point?? Lol

The humans are as dull as ever, but thankfully this time we're only following 4 of them instead of big groups like in previous movies.

So yeah, not a good movie but decently watchable and I'd probably give it a 5/10 like GvK.

Wor-Gar are you saying that we shouldn’t as mature adults expect a movie about Godzilla or T-Rex’s to be any good because those are products of childish fantasies that should’ve been jettisoned as soon as our brains became a vessel to only deal with serious adult matters?

Please say no lol, that’s not what you meant.

Because if you answer yes to the question I posed then you already lost the debate before it even begins!

You cheated, you added the T-rex.

I will say, Godzilla isn't as unbelievable as Superman.
If that’s case please turn over all of your copies of every action/sci-fi/fantasy/horror movie ever made after 2001 A Space Odyssey and that includes your collectibles as well only thing you’re allowed to watch are the 2024 elections lol

Love it or hate it I’m just happy Godzilla and monster movies are getting more love. Maybe we will see more remakes of famous monsters now

Damn over 80 million opening!
194 million worldwide.
135 million budget

I’m good with it making bank and if goes the “just for the kids” route from here on I’m ok with that.

I got more more than I ever would have imagined from the monsterverse

Godzilla 2014 has aged like a fine wine.

Kong: Skull Island is a solid fun film

Godzilla: Kong of the monsters gave me a big budget look at Ghidorah and Rodan

Godzilla vs Kong was a wonderful first time viewing experience. Sure I’ve cooled on it a bit but it was a freaking treat on opening day. It clicked every box of my childhood dreams.

Monarch - A solid though from from perfect tv show

Never ever in a million years would i have thought we would get big budget versions of these monsters like this.

And if these new ones makes the kids happy like some of the cheesy 60s ones made me happy then so be it.

Maybe we will get lucky and they will tone it down a bit for the next one. Director already said he wants the focus to be more on Godzilla.

Add in Minus one and G fans really have had it pretty good.

I just hope if they keep these more kid friendly that they at least make them a little less dumb.
