And I absolutely adore Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr, and the rest of the avengers cast. These guys look like runway models, except for RDJ, but RDJ still looks very good.

But lets be real:
When Chris Evans was in highschool, he probably teased/insulted another kid reading a captain america comic book.
When Chris Hemsworth was in highschool, he probably teased/insulted another kid reading a thor comic book.
And the list goes on.

Its only natural. Animal Kingdom behavior. Those with more are at a very high probability to cast themselves as superior to those with less. Especially during your youth, when you are less mature and have less inhibitions.
Never go full retard

I feel now that being a nerd has become mainstream, being a nerd has lost its identity. I was and still am, the type of student who sits in back of the class and has very little friends. These movies and comics does lose a little of it's charm now that every body is buying it.

Put it this way:

When the preppy arsehole frat boy starts talking comics, I get depressed. Just ten years ago, he would have been bullying the nerds.

I also notice a lot of girls take up the nerd mantle, anime mantle, or video game mantle (twitch girls) to differentiate themselves from the other girls. But in reality, they spend just as much time obsessing over their looks, and has just as much character (or lack thereof) of the other girls. And lets state the obvious, they still find the true nerds disgusting. IE: The ones who are overweight, pimply faced, and socially inept.

I take pictures of dolls in the yard, bang my good looking woman and drive a vette. You jelly, bro?

Having a hot chick really does cover a multitude of nerdisms doesn't it? :lol

Play with dolls when you're single: "Oh he's a loser."

Play with dolls when you have a hot chick: "Oh he's ironic."

I sometimes receive figs at the school I teach at. I received my HT Robocop and Chair on Monday. I was showing it to another teacher. Some students were in the class as well and kind of snickered at the idea of a grown man collecting figs.
The following morning one of my students, I teach 7th grade, approached me and asked, "Why are you a nerd?"
I replied, "Because I'm a grown-ass man and I can do what the hell I want."

I applaud you for having confidence for standing up for yourself and all jokes aside, I think we have a bigger responsibility to set an example to kids. If an adult asks me why I collect dollies, I be a smart ass about it but if my 9 year old cousin asked me, I would say adults definitely would branch out and have their own identity, and the importance of HAVING an identity.

Or I could just say what you said, both sounds cool to me. :lol

Everyone is a nerd about something. A couple guys that play fantasy football were giving me **** about my collection and I told them that to me fantasy football is the jock version of Dungeons & Dragons--so they are football nerds. Sports, movies, fashion, comics, toys, etc. are all just hobbies/interests that people have and go nuts over. The interest in comics and toys has just become more mainstream in the last decade and therefore more acceptable.

Recently I was told to be insane and ****ed up for collectin' expensive dolls.
Came from a guy who plays "Magic: The Gathering" and buys expensive sets of cards...

:lol

I would have just looked at him, aimed RoboCop's gun at him and said "pew, pew, pew!"
Then again thats me, and I can care less what anyone thinks about me or what I buy with my money.

I'm a nerd but not in a classic sense- my daughter has called me out on numerous occasions though

I watched My Little Pony and went out and bought MLP dolls with my daughters to bond with them. The eldest one proudly announced to her class that her dad is a brony.
