Man that really sucks and i feel your pain cause I live in Toronto and know the garbage associated with shipping, customs, duties, and all the extra financial headaches. Listen to everybody on this board when they say send it back to SS at their expense and have them send you a new one. If you sold it locally,
1.You wont get what you payed for it which is a ridiculous price with shipping and customs.
2. Its a huge piece so you will have to invite strange freaks (Such as myself:google) into your home to check it out, which they probably wont like the crap paint job either.
3. Or your gonna have to drive around in the cold of winter showing it to potential customers.

If you payed all the overhead for this piece anyways, then i can tell you really wanted this bust. Go through the time and effort of sending it back, get a new one, and appreciate the fact that $900 CAD is worth a little time and effort.
Goodluck!

Well....ya.....
I just contacted SS apparently all their return agents are busy. I guess a few other people got their Iron man busts today too...

I think it would be easier to just sell it locally, and having the buyer come pick it up....have cash in my hand and carry on.........Vs..........boxing the thing back up, bringing it to the post office, waiting for it to get there, waiting for my credit card to be refunded or waiting for a replacement. Lets assume I take the "replacement" option...what if the next one they send me is PERFECT, but then gets damaged in shipping. Remember I live in Ontario Canada....lot of room for error from SS to my front door. The box it came in today had 2 huge holes in the side from something that punctured it. THEN....I have to go through the WHOLLEEE return process again. Does this sound like fun to you so far. Allll I wanteddddd wasss my Iron man statue :monkey2

I'm having the same dilemma my friend. I ordered one through eBay, and should be here in the next couple weeks. However, I have to HOPE that the seller will properly inspect it. And IF it does have flaws then I have to wait for another.........

I dont know guys....its kinda up in the air at this point if im going to keep it or not. The more I look at it the more I get pissed off and hit myself for buying it :banghead. I can't even show it off because it honestly looks like Sh** at pretty much every angel you look at it. My cuzin came over to see it laughed and offerd me $100 for it. I dont know if this is the kind of trust you want to inspire in your customers SS.
Whats sucks also is this thing isnt even numberd, no certificate.....nothing.........not even on the box. What the hell??
That kinds looks like these things were pumped off an assembly line as quick as possible and theirs way more being made than SS claims....theirs no scense of exclusivity. Damit, im getting more and more pissed off as im writing this.

Here's one more pic of the back.....good news..they didnt do so bad there. All I gatta do now is display it facing in the wrong direction :banghead

Chris

I'll give you 150.00 J/K
LMK if you wanna sell it, my neighbor is an awesome car painter, I can get it hooked up....

What will it cost you to just break it (a good way to relieve some frustration) and wait for replacement - you won't pay customs/shipping twice. :lecture

I don't know why you would even debate this? :huh :dunno :huh

To be honest its just frustration at this point...I waited since November to get it spent all this money on the thing...now I just feel like I got ripped off. Why this put an even worse taste in my mouth is because this is my FIRST purchase from SS. Im mainly a 1/12 scale car collector, I've always wanted to get into these when I had a proper theater room set up (which I do now) to display these. I have buddies that collect all kinds from SS and I see their collections all the time which are mint. I hear the greatest things about SS all the time...their quality, customer service ect ect.
So far, I got a huge Iron man bust I cant do anything with and I havent been able to get ahold of the returns department all day. This is almost enough to make me turn away from SS completely.
Even if I return it, I actually think thats what their all going to look like. I watched the promo video on SS website again for this thing....even in the video you can see the same patchy cheap paint job. Probably why they filmed it in the dark.

Unfortunately, this is the nature of the hobby.... You are NEVER NEVER going to get an absolutely FLAWLESS piece. Even the best of them have SOME kind of flaw. It's all a matter of what you can live with. A TINY little imperfection that you can't even see unless you're looking inches away from the piece isn't something worth returning (IMO). I'm pretty anal when it comes to flaws, but small little imperfections is something that you just learn to deal with.... TRUE that a piece THIS expensive and SIMPLE should have very FEW, if not ANY, flaws. Yes, it sucks. But atleast you were lucky enough to have attained one directly through SS. Sucks that you can't get a hold of anyone either, but really get in their face and DEMAND to talk to a manager IMMEDIATELY! If I couldn't get a hold of the replacement department ALL DAY, I'd be flying out there myself!!!! :lol All in all, just get yourself a replacement and enjoy this bad boy. It IS a pretty crazy cool piece, but one MAJOR lesson you will learn in ANY collecting hobby is that PATIENCE is well worth the wait  Best of luck!

I'm waiting on one of these too - and I live down under (OZ) so i have no hope if the paint is crap. AS for your other question about the T2 bust - i have one of the chrome versions and it is totally awesome - no dings, scratches or defects. U were just unlucky - really sucks considering it is such an expensive piece!!!

Wow, this is blowing my mind if this is what you guys have been accepting as "quality" all these years. I've been collecting 1/12 and 1/8 scale models for about 9 years now. If your not familiar with these, they are BIG about a foot to 4 feet long in some cases. With EXTREAM attention to detail, the bigger the more detail is usually involved. I have cars with real leather seats and functioning dampers to open doors, hoods, trunks...ect. These cars are worth between $600-$5000 in some cases. For that money dust doesnt even dare to come near. They have MIRROR paint finishes....better than the real car. Now these are pieces with much labour and time dedicated to their completion. Are you trying to say SS cant put the same kind of attention to detail into their stuff....especially when thats what they pride themselves on?
Thats ridiculous, this bust is clearly a rush job......probably painted in 20-30 minutes or so. However, if im wrong and their was much time and dedication put into these paint jobs........then SS.......you need to fire your painters.

Below are a couple pictures of my 1/12 scale (1 foot long) Lamborghini Diablo I got a month ago. Look at the paint job on that thing....the interior,dimensions....everything.....THATS worth $700 (literally the paint job alone was $700). So when I see SS claiming this thing has an AMAZING paint job, they should deliver. It just isnt the case, I think they should raise their standards a little more.

Chris

sorr to hear you got a crappy IM bust, Chris :(

I totally understand your points...this should never happen on a $700 piece! but I guess it does sometimes, unfortunately.
You should talk with Sideshow in the morning and explain the situation, I'm pretty sure they can send you a mint one to replace it.

btw- sweet lambo :rock
looks like a real car!

You got any pics of your chrome T2? I wanted to get that one first but they sold out before I could get to them, so I ended up with the weathered battle one instead. When I get it think I should call SS up and be like....HEY....this one's been used!..theirs scratches all over it LoL...

Got my second Iron Man bust today after the first unit was returned for poor paint finish. The replacement is much the same, the finish is very inconsistant, ranging from a rich smooth semi-gloss to a very poor, sandy feeling matt finish, at times even milky in colour. The worst areas are the left and right side of the neck, some areas are still white with little or no paint.

The guy who quality checks these needs sacking, he or she is an idiot.
As it stands and if all the busts have a similar quality, they are only really worth about £150 ($225) at best.

Let's hope Sideshow gets back on track with future busts. My advice to people thinking of getting this, is to let this one go, no really YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED!!

sorry to hear that bro !

I am so glad mine has a perfect coat of paint and 0 flaws.
really sucks SIDESHOW QC would screw up that bad.
so weird how some are perfect and some are defective.
I dont get it.

mine was worth evrypenny !

I am luck enogh that I have the US border 15 minutes from my house so I get evrything shiped to detroit and I go pick it up there and I cross the border with out paying crazy costums fees.

but what kills me is that the actual suit wore in the movie (real live action suit) was not glossy shinny painted.
The CGI shots made the suit look all shinny and had more detail.
some people forget that THIS BUST !! was taken from the actual REAL suit not THE CGI suit.

watch this video and you can see what i am talking about.

get a napkin and spray it with wd-40 and dab the statue with it, then use another napkin to rub it down. hopefully that makes it a little better for you.

Yes I'm aware that it's not meant to be glossy, I'm quite happy with it being a satin finish as long as it's applied correctly.
I've also just noticed that it has a 2" hairline crack on the back shoulder, the quality is so appalling, I'm so annoyed with Sideshow for letting these leave the warehouse in this state....7 months of waiting and I get sent utter crap.

I'm glad you got a good one mate, congratulations.

Plus us Brits seem to have been waiting all those extra months for it to come out here,it's frustrating. But hey man if you got it free things aren't that bad.
