Thank you all so much for the last load of comments. You guys are all truly the best!
I thought you all may like to see how I work on all your customs and commissions?
The next few post are for tbay. After seeing Hot toys awesome Superman figure. I decided to jump on this full figure custom.
One of the first things I do with all your commissions is reference hunting. You can never have enough lol. I'm very lucky to have worked in the toy and collector market as a lead designer for many years, and this being the case I have a lot of style guides and movie references from many films such as Star Wars, Pirates, Superman, Batman, Dr Who, Harry Potter and many more. Many of these photos I have have never been seen in the public eye as they are for reference only. So for this custom I jumped straight into my archive into my Superman Returns folder and got as many images as I could for Superman and printed them out for myself to follow. Here is an example of what I put together for each head.
Next the dremel work and the painting. On thing I pride myself on is Movie accurate work. At the end of the day these are your customs I'm working on and if its not right then I'm not doing my job lol. If reference is there you just simply follow it, no excuses lol.
Below are the Before and after Medicom paint jobs. You will notice the normal toy like paint on the left. Not to mention the eyebrows looking completely off. Eyebrows is one of the most important things to myself when it comes to painting. I find that factories can make them too thick in paint and colour. They should look like hair and much more natural in the shading and colour. Which is why I paint them with layers of washes no hard colour. Also medicom did not make the eyebrows long enough.
I even got reference of the Superman boots, so I repainted them to match the Boots worn in the Movie. So I matted the boots off and repainted the gloss sections and the zips.
Finally the muscle body. The Medicom head like all medicom's heads are very small. So I had to dremel the whole head so it could fit on the neck. However the neck is far to thick for this head so the neck also needed to be sanded. Doing this also makes his neck a little more movie like. He has quite a thin straight neck for Superman.
I hope this gives you a little insight to how I work? I know some things can take myself a while. But I dont just like to paint all my heads the same, skin tones are very important to me and so is your custom. Thank you to all of you guys out there.
Next 2 posts more of Superman!!!!!
