Reviews are very mixed and alot are negative- OK Disney didn't pay them enough!:lol

The cracks in the MCU are widening.....

Whilst the reviews don't appear as good as the first film, I'd hardly say "alot are negative".

It seems like the general consensus is that it's a good fun movie, but doesn't reach the same level of greatness as the first film. I think we'd be wrong to expect it to.

The popular YT geek reviewers are not liking this movie.

Wor-Gar has company.

Vindication!

For an entire week I thought I was going to be alone and the Disney 'happy' machine would drown me.

This is not a victory I wanted though. I would say that if you have some time to waste for a few laughs its worth seeing. This is not BvS or Suicide Squad bad.

That's what I thought was going to happen with me and Suicide Squad.

Sounds a like a filler episode or a one-shot comic.

That's how I felt after it was over.

Like I said, the best way to describe this movie is that it a full movie about stuff that's usually just referenced as backstory in a better, bigger movie.

Also, Ayesha -- and I love Eliz Debicki -- was so underused and basically a background joke. The way her people fly their ships is literally reduced to an 80's video game homage.

I hope they don't do the same thing to Hela in Thor 3.

Yeah, the necessity to have 5-10 sequels in a property means nothing if you have nowhere to go with them.

"Franchise" has become "Universe".

Then on top of that, they stretch this movie into 2 hrs and 17 mins. Completely unnecessary, and the exhaustion that sets in doesn't help your opinion after its over. This might have been a really good movie at 1 hr 45.

For some reason, there's this belief that if the movie is less than two hours than its not working. It has to feel epic, and to be epic it needs to be 2:15 minimum. Which is of course crap. It just feels longer. More of a poor thing is not good.

This movie would be a good Netflicks interim film while you're waiting for the big blockbuster movie to open. That's what these companies need to be doing -- drown the crap out of you on TV but save the movie experience for really great stories.

I see your point and without having seen it I can understand how you feel... alot of this and that and no solid story to hang it on- as well as no real THREAT to our heroes(weak villian) - here we go again on that aspect

OK, here it goes...

No specific details yet, but here's my feelings...

I think they tried to ESB this movie. Split up the heroes so there's lots of cutting back and forth... but the group works best when its a group. The separate storylines seem... trite for the most part. There's some fun, and quite a few laughs, but ... it is no where as good as the first movie. There's no mission, no adventure for the Guardians to pursue as a team, and tragically, no real villain. The bad guys assigned to 'play the fools' are used at the expense of jokes.

There's also very little swindling and cheating, which was the best part of the first movie. And Star-Lord is so enamored with his new Pop that he isn't even the same character for half the movie. There's no 'dance-off bro' (which is good), but there's also not much Star-Lord there either. Just a lost little boy.

The entire movie feels like it has no direction -- meaning movement forward -- which you will realize within the first 10 minutes (as soon as they land in the forest). From there, the story just meanders along, dividing into several predictable subplots with characters having self-realization moments, and lots of jokes... the best of which you saw in the many trailers. Too many.

There's the standard 'big climax' -- which makes no sense really -- and is awkwardly complicated, and then quickly wrapped up with unrealistic solutions.

There is a 'big surprise' -- but anyone with two-cents will see it coming, or if they didn't, they will nod with the 'of course' once it happens.

There's some surprise cameos as well -- well, only a surprise if you haven't been keeping up with Marvel's current business model. Seriously, the casting choices of late seem driven by the 90's sensibilities in casting for the Burton/Schumacher Batman films.

So, as you can guess, I was really let down by this movie. Perhaps I expected too much (this was my most anticipated movie for summer). I would have liked more adventure to balance the silly humor and music. That's not to say it isn't fun. It's got a warm heart, and lots of jokes, and even more music... but this movie is pretty much the trailers and the goofy marketing campaign. That's it. There's nothing more to it.

I'll be really curious what the official reviews say after midnight tonight. I might be very alone in my feelings. And I'll be even more curious what some of you guys think.

Sorry guys. I wanted to love it. If nothing else, I hope your experience is better with lower expectations.

great read, Wor. :duff

I think I will still hold out and see it once the crowd dies down (GF loves the first, I think it's kinda meh).

I'm sure if it's funny I'll somewhat enjoy it.

It almost sounds like they gave James Gunn too much creative freedom and control. I'll still watch it in theaters.

Same people yelling too much studio control over SS now blaming the director for same reasons of GoTG. :lol :rolleyes2

Thanks!

It's still worth seeing, but at bargain matinee price and with lower expectations.

The people I feel sorry for are the guys who preordered their GOTGv2 figures at $200+ each before seeing this movie. I wonder what they'll do?

:lol

All those NRD's screaming out.. help us!

Personally, I'll hold out for...

"Pac-Man" Star-Lord... Is that true? Does Peter turn into the MCU's version of a Celestial, which is a giant Pac-Man that tries to eat Ego's planet form?

If so I'm fkn done with the MCU and watching X-Men 3 instead. :lol
