Something Spider-Man, done in the lame, freaky McFarlane style.

Why do you keep bagging on McFarlane? Most posts I see of yours are saying the same thing. The guy is a very talented artist/businessman and personally, his version of the character is my favorite.

I've heard he may be a bit of a **** in real life, but that still doesn't mean his talent is any less artistic.

Now that most of the members of Mighty Avengers are "assembled", I am guessing that Sideshow will be going to the villain side now, i.e. Red Skull.

So in PF:

Destroyer
Mandarin
Abomination
Loki
Bullseye
Venom
Ultron

'Cause I don't like his style and it seems SS has used McFarlane's weird, goofy style on almost every Spidey thing they've produced. Is it to much to ask for them to release a non-freakish Spider-Man with some meat on his bones and mask eyes that don't take up his whole freakin' head?

I have no idea what McFarlane is like in real life so why you even bring that up...?

I don't like his style. It's my opinion. Don't take it so personal!

Just be patient. This is an advance from upcoming storyline.

Issues of Amazing Spiderman #298-300 will always be near top of my list. McFarlane's art was incredible when he first hit the scene. Oviously, he's still influencing artists 10-15 years later.

I only bring it up because I've heard that from a couple of people on this board, and I thought maybe that is why you don't care for him. I have no idea how he is as a person, and I've had 3 chances to meet the guy. Lives about 45 minutes away somewhere in Scottsdale AZ.

Perhaps I'm not that familar with McF style - but if the Medicom Spidey 12" is McF then almost none of the SSC stuff is in the same style - not the PF, not the Vs. statues, not the movie product.

this is amazing spiderman #300. I think McFarlane started his run at #298, but a quick google of those images weren't very good quality.

And then he initiated the run of the "Spiderman". This happened sometime in the early 90's.

And then of course he was one of the founding fathers of Image comics and started drawing spawn.

and now that I'm jogging the memory banks, I think the PF more closey represents an Eric Larsen Spiderman:

Solid guesses:

Iron Man v. Mandarin
Cap LSB

Half-assed guesses (or maybe what I think'd be neat):

Fantastic 4 vs. Dr. Doom
Ant Man vs. ...I dunno...an ant?
Spider-Man vs. Sinister Six
Cap vs. Baron Zemo
Thanos vs. Entire Marvel Universe (ala Infinity Gauntlet)

well 2 will be the AH girls rounding out the original 6 stated.

Movie IM PF
MKII Movie IM PF
IM vs ??

Colossus com
Gambit PF

Archangel PF
Archangel vs Apocolypse

Proffesor X PF ;)

and... xmen vs DIO featuring Nightcrawler and storm

and now that I'm jogging the memory banks, I think the PF more closey represents an Erik Larsen Spiderman:

I would agree with this statement, The 1:1 Definitely has heavy Larsen influences.

That's my pic! :joy:joy

I have to update my pics....:lol

The PF is a mix of different artists but is definitely favored to Bagley's styling but not stature.

The VS against the Hulk is definitely McFarlane inspired but doesn't have the same overall look

Totally disagree as Spider-Man was never drawn freakish until McFarlane hit the scene. There were many artists that followed him including Larsen and Bagley that continue to draw him with a heavy influence of McFarlane. I have yet to see SS produce a Spider-Man that has what I call a "classic" look based on John Romita Sr.'s style. The SS stuff may not be 100% McFarlane but the pieces I've seen, sans any movie stuff, all seem to have his influence.

It's not that unusual for Spidey fans to want some items produced in the general style of the late sixties to late eighties, a twenty year span of the character's history.

I'd love a Spidey done in any format (PF, Comiquette, Vs) that was Romita Sr. Influenced. All the Spidey artists have been really good except maybe Romita Jr. who is a overhyped and overrated hack IMHO.

LOL Nice pic but a little to the extreme. I don't want THAT much meat on his bones!

Yes, I agree McFarlane has a HUGE influence on today's artist. Another reason why I can't stand him! :D

I have a friend who is close to McFarlane and he's never said a bad word about him. I'm sure he's a great guy. I just don't like his exaggerated art style and how it changed the world of comics for the worst.

IMO.

Met McFarlane at his store in Tempe a few months ago. His ego filled the room...it was incredible. However, he was very gracious and he was surprisingly down to earth.

As for his style... he added a lot of sex and power and fantasy in his artwork... once upon a time, he was a breath of fresh air...then people started to immediately copy his style and it became played out.

Would much rather have someone emulate McFarlane's style than Liefeld... that guy totally sucks.

See, that's what I've heard. Your #3. I missed seeing him in Mesa during Free Comic Book Day at Atomic due to other priorities, so I wish I could formulate an opinion for mself. All I can go on is what other people that have met him tell me.

I liked Liefeld's work too, but maybe that was because I was young and impressionable. I DID go to get a Liefeld signing at a con and he left about 3 hours before his scheduled time.

Liefeld is one of the biggest *********s in Comics. You can't argue that McFarlane has had influence but he is outdated. Its sort of the way that Michael Turner really hit some heavy influences with his drawings early on and his styling of women in particular but its been copied and modified so much the work done by the originator becomes blah.

I work about a mile away from McFarlane's Tempe store... anytime I've got a minute to kill, I usually end up over there just checking stuff out. Apparently McFarlane's over there a lot.

Edit: so needless to say, I have no signed comics.

See, I see Turner as another McFarlane imitator - his stuff kinda sucks the way Liefeld's stuff sucked. And NEITHER of those guys, with all the talent they've got can't draw feet. What the hell is up with that?! I've got all the Civil War variant covers... Turner avoids anything below the knee.
