I'm pretty sure A LOT more people know who Spielberg is vs. most of the guys you mentioned... except maybe Scorsese
Nolan and Spielberg, right now, are neck and neck. Ooh, forgot about JJ. Abrams. JJ. Abrams is pretty well known right now.

I never said all time.

You know Sony ended up dropping Hellboy, and Universal picked it up right?

I was with Dougie Jones when Guillermo called up and told him that Universal had finally given the green light after months of searching for a new studio. I was even invited to a preview screening hosted by Universal, was interviewed by a bunch of suits from the studio regarding my thoughts on film, and Guillermo sat behind me and kicked my seat during the screening.

So yeah, I know. :wave

Where did I mention anything about a one specific studio? Don't you think studios pay attention to the box office and DVD sales numbers of competing studios in addition to that of their own? Universal saw that Hellboy was selling well on DVD, and when Guillermo went shopping for a sequel headquarters there, they accepted mostly due to that fact.

Still. They took a chance where the other studio did not. That was my point.

I really, want this movie to do well. But i'm breaking it down why it might not so you guys don't kill yourselves. :lol

I too prefer the first Hellboy. I always have. My issue with the second film is it sets up a lot of great things that we may never see paid off now. That and all the slapstick humor. Tonally it's just odd at times, and much less in tune with that of the comics. The first film was much more faithful and consistent.

Mike didn't want GDT to stick to the comics. He wanted him to make his own thing.

So, blame the creator for not wanting someone to copy their work.

Mignola wanted him to do his own thing, while honoring the spirit of source material and not going crazy with it.

Guillermo didn't stick to the comics. Ever. The first film takes TONS of liberties, such as Hellboy and Liz being an item, Abe's physic abilities, the entire WWII sequence, the death of the villain, and so on. It's very different, but the tone is a match. It is in tune with the comics. At the end of the day Mike was happy with the balance struck in the first film. He told me so.

Hellboy II was completely a GTD film. It had bizarre humor and was inconsistent in tone. It felt like a different universe from the first film. It also felt nothing like the comics. Mike didn't care for it as much. He told me that too.

I have confirmed you were right-ish. But that isn't going to stop me from enjoying HB2.

Just took a few links is all.
