I always do my homework on what guns I'm interested in and How much budsgunshop sells it for when I visit my local shop. They've been helpful and alway match or beat online pricing. I'm sure level of service will vary greatly

The thing is I'm just looking for the best price on the DDM4 that I want and of course checking who charges the least for being a FFL to get the firearm delivered. If I call and they don't have it in stock, they ask me why do I want the DDM4 and to come in because they have a lot of selection and that you can build one better...salesmen:rolleyes: But for $1500 for the DDM4 sounds good at a local gun shop. I would imagine if I custom my own close to the specs of the DDM4 I would be paying easily over $2000.

For those guys who owns both the AR-15 and M1A, I know it's 2 different animals but if you could keep one which would you prefer?

if i were to choose between the two (i own both) then i would choose my M1A. yes, it's heavier but i love the solid build and simplicity. also 7.62/.308 power! shooting it is loads of fun!

Cool, now I'm also researching about the M1A. Is the only difference for the M1A II and M1A 16 is the length of the barrel? I'm also google searching on prices and every site I go to is sold out. Do you mind me knowing how much you got your M1A for? And do you know any sites that has them in stock?

the length of the barrel is the same for both the Socom 16 and Socom II. the big difference is the railing on the II. i bought mine at the high peak. they're still very hard to come by these days. try some local gun shows. i'm kickin myself for missing an opportunity on getting the Loaded for $1,850 a while back.

AA9626 Springfield Socom 16
- MSRP: $1,855
- [Marin Firearms price]: $1,899.99 [02/18/09]
- $30.00 ($25.00 DOJ Fee + $5.00 Dealer Fee)
- $147.25 (7.75% Tax)
- Total: $2,077.24

Did you swap out you grip and stock or leaving it the way it is?

i left it stock. if i added a pistol grip then by CA law i would have to install a mag lock which i didn't want to do. i already have a raddlock on my SL8 and USCs which i just hate. the bullet button on my AR15 isn't so bad though.

I finally pulled the trigger and went with the DDM4! Just put down the deposit and it was ordered from a local gun shop should be here in a week. Seems like the M1A is scarce right now, I'm going to a local gun show next month to see if I can score one. I also hinted to my wife that I want a hand gun next and she seems cool about it. Either a hk usp45 Tactical or a 1911.

Are M!A's more reliable? I read that they are very accurate.

more reliable because of the gas piston system, less fouling in the chamber/bolt area. big, heavy bullet, very accurate, make pretty good out of box sniper rifles. seal teams and CAG still use them. they stink at cqb unless you go shorty, then you lose accuracy. a lot of new weapons, fn scar, etc.. use elements of the m1a action in their design. if you go back further, it's the same design as the m1 garand with a detachable magazine rather than en-bloc clips, and .308 rather than 30-06 rounds.

So for M4 what brand, type, etc. ammunition should I use? I hear certain one causes your rifle to get jammed, same as certain mags. I also have a free 5 month membership shooting range on where I purchased my rifle. Also I want to get a scope in the future, nothing fancy. What do you guys recommend. And what cleaning kit should I get? What should I first do when I get my riffles. I know you guys have a lot of knowledge and experience. I don't want to ask the sales guy because he might tell to to buy things that I don't need.

just don't use Wolf ammo, very poor quality. The magpul Polymer mags are nice and arouund $14 each, not bad in price and are nearly indestructable!! Scope - totally depends on budget and distant you intend to shoot out to. A red-dot doesn't work too well at a target 200 yards out!!

i wouldn't use Wolf on anything but my Saiga.

btw, DD's Ranch has some Remington R25 .308 rifles in stock! it's basically a DPMS rifle but branded by Remington in camo.

i can hit a guy 200 yds out with a red dot :monkey3

DK, as ammo goes, any us made mil surplus is good, remington umc, pmc bronze are good for paper shooting. as scopes go, depends on what you want to accomplish......
