Bungie released a new Halo: Reach ViDoc today. As always, everything they do has hidden meanings, red herrings, and a hint of subtlety. I had an inkling that John 117 would somehow show up in Halo: Reach. This latest video assures it. Here is why.


1. Bungie has said countless times that the story of Halo: Reach will absolutely not be a direct re-telling of the Fall of Reach. It will have the same backdrop: Covenant invasion of humanity’s greatest military base that is eventually torched. If they did, what would be the point of making a game shrouded in surprises and secrecy? Reach is invaded and attacked on 2552. John 117 was taken off of his planet on 2535. Simple math here, he is alive, well, and already augmented into a Spartan II. In the book, several Spartans are left behind and Master Chief goes elsewhere to start the events of Halo: CE. In the game, it may be very different. Might he be dispatched to help?

2. In the trailer, the woman is most likely Dr. Catherine Halsey. For those of you who haven’t read the books or follow the canon outside of the games, she is the Mother of the Spartan II program. She is the one describing the team and she is obviously not talking to herself. She makes an extremely obvious reference about John 117. Furthermore, she says it in a tone that would make one assume that the reference it is being directed AT someone rather than about someone.

3. Fact: This is Bungie’s last Halo game. They have created one of the greatest gaming heroes of all time. Love him or hate him, Master Chief is huge. Do you honestly think they would make their most ambitious game to date without their greatest hero? It’s like making a game about the Chicago Bulls and not even mentioning Michael Jordan.

4. Now, the conspiracy theory. Bungie has a raging hard-on for the number 7. There are currently six people in Noble Team. Hmm.

5. Master Chief and Cortana will be attainable multiplayer voices for Firefight. This is long confirmed. Do you really think that will be the only homage to Mr. and Mrs. Halo? Not a chance.

Hey, Bungie could be doing this just to mess with us. They love surprises and love making us hang on their Alternate Reality Games. Remember “I Love Bees”? Now, Remember Reach. Surprises are coming people. This is just the first.

To be honest, i'd Be really pleased if it wasn't just because it would be a nice surprise.

I'm not saying the Chief isnt in the game, I'm just saying he's not Noble 6. Noble 6 might have been one of Cortanas candidates and may help get 117 onto the Pillar of Autumn but I think we're going to get alot of pathos out of this game. Meaning that all of Noble team may end up dead or at the least have an ambiguous end for some team members.

This is what I'm thinking. Noble 6 will be one of the teams, or possible primary teams we see on mission and Spartan 117 will be in the background and Noble 6 will be providing support for him to succeed in his mission and end up perishing in the end.

I'm sure that when/if MC shows up in the game it'll be dramatic and even Noble team will be in awe of his battlefield prowess (..and his luck )
He'll also probably unplayable in game, just a guess.

I'm putting on my flame suit.....I think it would suck if we got to play as the Master Chief. If this game is to truly stand apart and introduce new characters....leave the Master Chief as minimal as possible.

I'm not arguing with you, but seeing as how this is the Final Halo game ( so bungie says) I'd be shocked if you don't play as chief at some point.



To be honest, i agree with you. we've seen Chief's story, time for someone else to have the spotlight... but considering how angry people were that you played as the covenant in Halo 2 for part of the game......
well...

The space battle scene will also probably be towards the end of the game as I believe its an escort mission of sorts either getting Cortana or MC's stasis pod to the Autumn. I think thats Noble 6 doing the driving in that fight. Cortana may have a similar team up with Noble 6 as she will with MC, like being in his helmet as they escape and fight.

I doubt this will be the last Halo game. Maybe Bungie will take some time off and make a couple other games, but as long as Halo keeps selling I'm certain MS will keep paying them to make more.

Yeah I saw that. Kojima also said there wouldn't be anymore Metal Gear games and we got not one, but two being released.

I was kind of hoping that ODST would've been better and took off with popularity so we could get a series made with those guys.

Kojima's also known within the industry as a crazy man who pumps out TONS of disinformation.

at one point he told people that MGS 3 would be about Raiden's father on the moon.

he also said Snake was going to Die in MGS 4 after hitting rock bottom.


as a RULE, you NEVER believe a single word that comes out of Kojima's mouth when it comes to pre-release game info.

and that's why i love him, and his games so very much.

Kojima, i strive to be just like you.

But enough hero worship. We don't know about Bunge with stuff like this. not so far anyways. with how Halo 3 ends, i'd love for them to do some more, and it seems they set it up with that in mind, but you never know.

As much as the game industry is a business, you've got to remember that to the developers, and designers, it's MORE than just a paycheck. To Us, it's art, and it's about doing what we love. No different than when an author ends a book series because it's reached it's conclusion, it's best to end a story at it's proper point, rather than try to FORCE it to continue past it's prime. Most of the time, that's when the suck starts to set in.

So if Bunge says it's over, it very well may be.

This is the last Halo game for Bungie at least
They made a 10 year deal with Activision. My guess is, that they will be making the next Modern Warfare

as far as i know, no studio will touch it because Microsoft wants COMPLETE control of the project, and is asking an insane amount of money for the buy-in for the rights to produce it.

it would be, but ONLY if Microsoft gets their way, as they would likely hand the whole project to bunge to run. with an IP like this, you need their creators in control of it.

Imagine what might happen if M.night Shamalan was put in charge.

or Uwe Boll

or Kevin Smith?

or Stephen Summers?

when a producer/ director team is selected, they usualy get final say. this is why we get movies based on IP that is so very different from the sorce material ( G.I. Joe).

Microsoft wants complete control, so they can keep the director from telling them what to do.

Or we could have a halo movie where, milla J from the re movie's plays an unamed character and master chief is just a side character and milla is part of a spartan telekenesis project. A man can dream.
