I get what you’re saying, but even with the HT figures’ shortcomings they are still better than Sideshow’s most of the time. Even Sideshow’s best figures fall short in one way or another when put against HT’s versions of the same figure.
I bought Sideshow’s R2 and have been super happy with him. But now seeing HT’s version, HT seems to have made it that much better just by making the dome die cast with that luscious brushed aluminum finish and the more accurate blue. Yes, I know one of the “eyes” size is off, but when taking the whole figure in, it’s a more forgivable error than the dome finish and blue color. Likewise I was very happy with Sideshow’s Boba Fett. I fixed the boxy chest so it lays nicely on mine so that’s not an issue. I’m even okay with the paint scheme which is something Fett experts say is wrong. But seeing HT’s Fett, it makes it incredibly obvious how completely wrong Sideshow got the shapes of the chest armor. Now it’s all I see when I look at my Fett—how off the chest armor shapes are.
And let’s not get into the base bodies! Yes, HT sometimes uses questionable body types for characters (too buff, too busty, etc.). But the quality of the bodies, their proportions, the way they naturally hang, is still much better than Sideshow’s bodies. I will say their new muscle body that came with Indy is pretty good, but was prone to arrive with a broken shoulder. I tried to get mine replaced by Sideshow and they sent me two additional bodies that had one or both shoulder joints broken!
This was all kinda forgivable when Sideshow was priced lower than HT. But now they are the same and even more than HT!
So yes, HT isn’t the end all be all in 1/6. They still have their flaws. But they are the best at this point. That is, until Blitzway and Star Ace and other smaller companies start taking over!
