Re: Harry Potter - Deathly Hallows [Teaser Trailer]

the biggest problem i have with 5 is that there was very little whimsy to the film. sure its supposed to be dark, but that doesn't mean you have to remove all the light from it. also, I felt it was really short on all the background aesthetics that tell you its the magical world.

Have you read the books? As the kids get older the magic element really diminishes.

Listened to them all over the summer while commuting and I can't agree more. The variety of voices he uses for the various characters is fantastic. Only negative I came up with is that all other audio books seem to be second rate after listening to the Potter books.

:lol That's right! The HP books were the first audio books I really listened to so I was very spoiled from then on. You wouldn't believe how awful some audio books are! DaVinci Code was particularly bad considering it was such a high-profile book.

Indeed, the magic seems to fade a bit as the books go on, however I think the reason I may have liked 5 so much was Dolores Umbridge. She was a great character, in my opinion, and a very well-cast part. I'm looking forward to the actress supposed return for the final two films.

Yeah. I read them as they were released. I'm rereading them now and am on the 3rd book. I really disagree that the magical element diminishes, I think there's always been the magical and even a lighter aesthetic despite the older they got and the darker the books got. There was always room for stuff like Peeves the ghost or enchanted pictures or screaming plants, or lebrechan fireworks or plates with moving cats on them, etc.
I can't remember off the top of my head what was like that from 5 that I felt was missed from the book but thats cause the movie is fresher in my mind. Hopefully I have time to read through 3, 4 and 5 soon so I can remember. Maybe one thing was the house elf stuff? Or was that in 4? Silly little elements like Hermione knitting hats for elves is nice little whimsy that they need to make room for in the films. Something as trivial as Harry going to a crooked Gringots bank and riding in a mine car is important to make you believe this is a special world. I think 5 really took it for granted that we knew this from already, but its important to be reminded. No Quidditch in 5 was another glaring ommission to the whimsy especially since 4 didn't have Quidditch either (per the story).

Half Blood Prince the movie was boring but the book was too. Plus they cut out the best side story where they flashed back to the young versions of Harry's parents. How they could cut that story is beyond me.

Snape is so underused in the films it disgusts me.

You hit the nail on the head. Stauton did an absolutely flawless rendition of Umbridge and I too hope she will be returning for the last two. I can't think of his name off the top of my head at the moment but the gentleman who played mad eye did a phenomenal job also.

Brendan Gleeson :rock

Stauton has to return as Umbridge. She attends Dumbledoors funeral but i can't remember if she does anything else in the last book.

Thanks Iron! :duff

He is also in In Bruges which is another great film.

She was in the last book, she had one of the horcruxes if I remember correctly. I don't recall if she knew what it was or not. So unless they rewrite that part (which after HBP I wouldn't put past them) I would say she has to be in it.

Yup. Pretty cool thing about In Bruges was that Voldemort, Mad Eye Moody, and Fleur Delacoeur were all in that movie (Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Gleeson, and I don't know the name of the girl that plays Fleur).

Not sure if this has been already mentioned by someone else, but in the Deathly Hallows sneak peak in the HBP Blu-Ray, they show a scene where Fleur is dancing with either Fred or George. Leads me to think they decided to keep the Bill and Fleur wedding in the film version.

Re: Harry Potter - Deathly Hallows [Teaser Trailer]

She was great in the Phoenix!!! I really hated her!!! But I still love Jim Dale's version of Prof. Umbridge in the audio books!!! JIM DALE'S THE MAN!:rock

:rock:rock:rock:rock:rock:rock

Jim Dale did an amazing job on those audiobooks. I think I remember him saying that for one of the books, probably OoTP (it's the longest), that he did 200 different and distinct voices....which is just mind boogling. He was also amazing as the narrator for Pushing Daisies (RIP :monkey2)

Can we make this the official Deathly Hallows thread, or is there one already? I've been reading up on the filming and want a spoiler thread so that I can say some stuff about what you just mentioned!

EDIT: There is a Deathly Hallows thread already. Let's start using that one, shall we?

In the Deathly Hallows teaser thread, DinoDB1975 mentioned that he hopes they keep Bill and Fleur's wedding in the film. I've done some reading on the filming of DH, and they have filmed the wedding scenes and it will be a main scene of the first film. According to reports, Hagrid is even bringing Madame Olympe Maxime (from The Goblet of Fire) to the wedding as his guest. She wasn't in the book but it will still be cool to see her again.
