I am leaving town for a week, starting the day that the book comes out. It will be a week before I can even start reading, and so I'm going to have a hard time avoiding spoilers. It will me a minor miracle if I can get through the book without knowing in advance how it's all going to end.
I'm also going to be out of town for a week after it is released, but I am going to be "off the grid" (hiking/camping), so hopefully I will be spoiler free until I get a chance to read it.

This isn't a spoiler, more a theory.

I've got a feeling the final book will reveal that Snape isn't a bad guy at all and that actually he's been in league with Dumbledore all along. I think he's been hard on Harry in a "cruel to be kind" sort of way, making him into the man he needs to be to take on Voldermort and the other Death Eaters when the time comes.

No real evidence to support this theory, but it would be a nice twist and a good ending for Snape's character.

But at the same time every book has lead us to believe Snape was a bad guy and in the end, he wasn't. So everyone now thinks he is good, and he won't be. Or she is expecting us to think that, so she will make him good, or maybe she expects us to expect that... It could really go either way at this point. Snape could definately be bad because of what he did to Dumbledore, but at the same time it could have been the ultimate loyalty if Dumbledore ordered him to do it if he had to.

I just finished book 6 this morning. Here are my thoughts:

1) I want Snape to be good, but I don't think he is. The only thing that makes me think maybe he is good is (Spoiler for those who haven't read 6). highlight to read: Dumbledore doesn't fear death. Dumbledore is totally in control of the situation until Snape comes in. Then all of sudden Dumbledore becomes unglued and pleads for his life. Why? I don't get that.

2) I think Malfoy will have something to do with the end of Snape and he will somehow help Harry against Voldemort. Malfoy will turn to the goodside.

3) Book 7 is gonna kick some major booty.

4) I know it has been said before but I believe Harry's scar is the 7th horcrux. Will Harry have to die to detroy it?

Please don't quote my responce. I would hate to spoil some of book 6 for someone else.

I've believed all along that Snape is loyal to Dumbledore and the "good" guys. He's a prick to Harry but that is because of his hatred for Harry's father and his gang and that whole history between them as youngsters.

Spoiler: As for what he did to Dumbledore....."please Severus" (or something to that effect).....I interpreted that to mean Snape should follow up on a pre-arranged scenario between them and deliver the fatal curse. This way, rather than let young and misled Draco ruin his life by following Voldemort's orders, Snape will take it upon himself -- and at the same time, possibly gain more credence in the Deatheaters/Voldermort's eyes as the one who got rid of the one major obstacle to getting at Harry. He's been a mole among the Voldemort groupies but his loyalty to probably the one person who's ever shown any kindness to him -- Dumbledore -- is absolute I think. If you'll remember, Draco was taken away and hidden immediately after. I'm thinking that it was to keep him out of futher harm's way.

And yes...there's a TON of us adults who are hooked on these books :rock2

All very good points Weta. I hope you are right. And yes Carbo, enough adults read these that there is even an adult edition. (among the adults who read them are Steven King, who praises them as in league with the great writers). I read them because they are highly enjoyable. :D

I am also not a child who reads and loves these books. Some people thinking that adults reading these books as taboo and wrong, really need to actually read them. The storylines and themes are anything but childrens oriented. Plus, the main theme for every book is LOVE and to me that's a universal theme. Anyway,

Read this today regarding the script for Order of the Phoenix...
https://www.aintitcool.com/node/33120

Finally, the big tidbit that got all the Harry Potter geeks mumbling in hushed whispers to each other. In the original draft of the screenplay for ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, they had decided to remove a character from the story. Rowling read over the screenplay and said “I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” that they were free to do whatever they liked, of course, but “if you make a 7th movie you’ll have tied your hands.”

I honestly hope it's Aberforth Dumbledore. Nevermind what he did to those goats, the Dumbledore Clan is always interesting. Hope he gets some screentime. Or it could be Mundungus Fletcher...all those colorful character are funny to me.

Tonks Maybe? Or Bill? If you're waiting for D. I am sure you'll be dissapointed.

:monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2 Don't think it was Tonks. Pretty sure she was always going to be in the movie. It's some obscure character that the writers were going to write out of the movie. Oh well, that will be on my brain for the next month now.

What Wetanut posted is also what I believe about the end of HBP.

JKR's set up that Serverus despises Harry, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good guy in the end.

As for the character they were going to write out.. I'd assume it was Grawp. He's had virtually nothing to do in both Phoenix and HBP, but occupies a bunch of pages in Phoenix. If I was the screenwriter I'd have dropped him like a hot potato.

Yeah... I think you may be on to something there Dave. There has to be a reason why he was introduced as a character.. hmmmmmmm...

EDIT: I just did a search on imdb and I see that Grawp is listed as a character. Played by David Maudsley.

My spoilerish predictions:

Snape will be a good guy and Dumbledore will be the one to defeat Voldemorte but it will be close to the end and it will be revealed he was there all along. I think Harry will have to sacrifice something in order for him to be killed. I'm predicting a bloodbath with alot of characters dying, including Snape, most of the Aurors

Crap....can't say much on predictions since so many haven't read #6 I'm thinking. okay....Spoilers: Rowling has put to rest once and for all and said that Dumbledore is dead. There was mention on other boards that Rowling hinted that there may be more than one death in #7 and that character may be a major one. I predict: - Snape, who will save Harry during the Voldemort duel and Hagrid (becuz JKR gotta have somebody beloved die and I don't think she'd have the nerve to kill off one of the 3 main kids)

Here are my book 6 spoiler thoughts:

Snape either was ordered by Dumbledore to do the deed ahead of time (and thus being ultimately loyal) or he really is bad. For book 7, I think Snape will either die saving Harry or maybe end up raising Harry (if Harry doesn't die) because his parents are dead and he doesn't want to live with the Dursleys obviously. Perhaps he is Harry's secret godfather or something (maybe someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse :D ).

I know I don't have time to re-read all the books again, so my plan is to watch the 5 films and re-read/listen to parts of (or all) of book 6. Then fly through 7 in time for SDCC (which is sad because I want to enjoy this last book).

Oh, and I just thought of something. Everyone assumes the book will end "happy" with Voldemort dying and all. But what if he actually wins in the end? I've always wanted a story were the good guys actually did lose and the villians one. I know it probably won't happen, but it would definately be an ending most people wouldn't have thought of.

Hey Pix, why don't we just make this the offical HP discussion thread? I mean it already has turned into it.
