Has anyone (customikey?) repainted a 12" Hasbro Grievous?

Subject line says it all.

Since SSC is apparently not going to be producing a 1/6 General Grievous any time soon (if ever) I figured I would hang on to my Hasbro version (I'm selling off 98% of all of my 1/6 Hasbro stuff) as he's decent enough. However, the paint job leaves A LOT to be desired. So I was curious if anyone has tried this yet... repainting the Hasbro 12" Grievous with more realistic "bone-like" damaged armorment, a more metallic looking skeleton, and better eyes. Anyone?

Oh, and customikey... if you're reading this, is this something you would be keen on doing?

Thanks in advance.

got any hilts you like to get rid off??

Not yet, because all of my figures are complete (most are MIB) and I'm trying to get rid of them that way, preferrably in lots.

I would disagree that the hasbro Grievous is decent. He's so incredibly disappointing that no paint job could save him. He's also way too short.

I believe the height issue can be rectified (or at least helped) via other customization methods. But, you're right... it's FAR from good. My "decent" description is relative, because Hasbro's 12" are generally so terrible. But since this is likely all we'll have to work with as far as 1/6 Grievous is concerned I'm keen to improve it as much as possible from what it is.

I agree, Dave. Not even the considerable talent of Customickey would able to save that Hasblow Grevious. The General was DOA.

I just sold my GG on Ebay last month and surprisingly got over $40 for him loose! I don't know why I bought him in the first place. Maybe I thought he would look cooler out of the box. Boy, was I wrong. :monkey2 :monkey2 :monkey2

In the end, I rather have no Grevious than THAT Grevious. :monkey3 :monkey3 :monkey3

Look, I'm literally the last person who will ever defend Hasblow and the shoddy "quality" of most of their products but I do think you guys are over-exaggerating the crappiness of the Grievous 12", if just slightly.

Maybe you're right and the figure can't be improved, even by "customikey" and other talented customizers. But I'm still eager to at least give it a try. :emperor

I'd still give it a try.... Hell, I just might.. A boredom project to see if I can make something out of it. Who knows... it just might work out and look cooler than it did.

I'll keep you updated...

Hey... I'll be the first one to defend some of Hasbro's Star Wars offerings. I will not bore you with the list... let's just say that it's MORE than a dozen or two.

Just not this one.

The head and height are not the only things that condemn the figure. Nobody has said anything about the arms. Well, they are pratically worthless. They are made out of a soft plastic and have a hard time holding up a light saber... let alone the FOUR he is packed with.

I had this figure in my collection for over a year and I could NEVER get him into a satifying pose... not one that wouldn't droop after a short while.

this guy and IG-88 seemed to be perfect custom fodder, as I think that it will be a long time coming before these two get the figures they deserve. The Hasbro IG-88 isn't too bad, but I haven't seen a grevious out of the box. It may be a fun weekend project!

I remember hearing that from a lot of people. No stability at all, or you would wake up and find him in a little crumpled heap on the floor.

I have the Hasbro Grievous still (a lot of my older Hasbro SW is in a box waiting to give to a friend who has a younger brother-I like to share the love like that instead of trying to ebay stuff cause it's lazier that way :D ) and all the problems described are spot on. The fig is actually one of the better sculpts from their 12" line and they ruined it with almost NO paint apps. The scale being wrong and the fact that he can't stand on his own is topped off by the crappy 'splitting' arms-- you mean to tell me Hasbro can make Transformers and not have 'transforming' Grievous arms? Here's hoping Sideshow makes a good GG one of these days, but I'm not holding my breath.

But enough ranting. Good luck with your custom, I bet a wash and some new paint apps WILL help GG stand out a little better. Not much compared to the SS stuff, but head and shoulders above Hasblow.
