Has anyone (customikey?) repainted a 12" Hasbro Grievous?

This figure looked good in the box, but was a disappointment once you got it out. The arms popped off easily and I needed to use those clear rubber bands just so he could hold the lightsabers. I think no use of paint was a way to cut corners on cost. Then again, Hasbro has never been known for their paint apps. Even as a toy for a kid, this was poorly made.

From what I remember, the cape was nice.

Okay.

I AM going to be customizing my Gen. Greivous, but only as part of a diorama for Obi-Wan Kenobi. GG will be lying on the floor, which is all the figure is good for anyway, with fried parts and his eyes burned out. Dead General. That's what I'll be making.

Anyone who wants a working General Greivous would do better to make one from scratch out of spam then to expect one from this travesty of a figure. To even call it a toy is a stretch as it is practically impossible to play with, nevermind posing. Yes, I could pretty him up and make him look good, but he'd just be a lemon with a new coat of paint. Not gonna waste my time on a figure that would never be up to standard. Pure, utter crap with a shovel made of poo.

So there.

Oh yeah, the cape is indeed quite nice. Well made, manufactured but totally innacurate. No clasp, it's white, and there are no pockets for sabers. It's a great cape, but not GG's cape.

Am I not being emphatic enough with my total disdane for this figure? Let me put it this way: On Haloween, I put him out with the candy and walked away. The next morning the candy was gone. Greivous was still there. The children have spoken.

WOW.....Now THAT is funny!! :rotfl

How tall was he supposed to be? I always thought he was like 10-12 feet tall in the film? And is that sarcasm Mike? :monkey5

It was indeed sarcasm. Of a friendly sort, you understand. 1/4 scale is Rancor sized next to 1/6 figures.

Fair enough. I just thought that someone from SS in an interview said he was in scale. It's cool brosive. :maul

He IS in scale with other 1/4 scale figures. So you can pose him with your PF RotS Anakin and Obi-Wan. Or use some forced perspective with GG displayed about 10 feet behind the 1/6 figures...

this guy and IG-88 seemed to be perfect custom fodder, as I think that it will be a long time coming before these two get the figures they deserve. The Hasbro IG-88 isn't too bad, but I haven't seen a grevious out of the box. It may be a fun weekend project!

I really think apart from replacing the oversized Hasbro weapon - IG-88 is actually pretty good within the limits of the original prop.

He's not that bad I guess? Here's my repainted Hasbro Grievous (sorry about the quality of the pictures.)

you could always get the kotobukiya general that is rumored to be coming next year.

ya never know, SS could eventually make a GG, if enough people drop money on a large unique scuplt like the Jabba, then they may reconsider doing him.

This is a Grevious repaint/rework done by a popular ebay customizer Jin Saotome:

You can find his site here:

But all the wonderful work in the world to the hasbro version won't change the fact that he's to small and not in scale with other 12 inch figures. I have high hopes that SS can manage a nice in scale version, i'd love to see that happen.

That is one cool custom job you've posted Magnuz!
I will get some shots of my Grievous in progress. It is not as far alontg as that excellent Saotome one, but he does look somewhat better than out of the box. I have added some neck details and whatnots. Hard one to redo! :D

I can't be bothered. It's a lot of work on a crappy figure. I'm not denying that, with enough hard effort, recasting, cutting, cannibalizing, resculpting, gluing, sewing, and painting, you can't put together a halfway decent looking Greivous, but I just don't want to give that crappy Hasbro figure the satisfaction of being worked on more than any other figure I've ever done.

Humbug to GG I say. Bring on Sideshow's.

And that custom, while a MARVELOUS piece of work, is not entirely accurate, can't be in scale, and would never hold up under the scrutiny of this distinguished body of toy-philes as a factory piece.

When it was first on the shelves i bought one with intenetions of a rework etc, well, hes in bits alright but this is all i ever did, fitted wrist joints and bored out each finger and put wire inside for posable fingers...
