Life these last few years have been terrible for the economy and having luxuries have taken a backseat to other, more important things. I used to have a mighty Hot Toys collection, over 40 different figures, half of them have been sold to cover bills and other life emergencies. This is a very difficult thing to deal with, I have grown attached to these figures and they make me happy to own them. Selling 8 in one day was a heart wrenching experience and now I have less than 20 HT figures left, which is still a lot, I know, but the time invested in every figure is a lot. Think about it, we get teaser pics and then per-order which takes 6 months or more to get the figure or at least see in hand pics, thats a lot of time, if your like me, you read peoples opinions and looking at there pics before you even get the figure, that's a lot of time just waiting for a figure. With the funds not in excess like they once were and with prices of HT figures growing with leaps and bounds I have changed my collecting direction (Lets face it, I am an addict and I can't stop) and I have started collecting less expensive figures. So my question is: Is there other people that have gone through this and what have you started collecting to fill the gap?

Nothing. Rising hot toys prices were the best thing to happen to me. I went from about 40 figures to 8. I'm now rich.

I've started collecting space. Not sure if I'll fill it with anything, it looks pretty good.

Nope. Just collecting space. I started collecting last year with Star Wars Hasbro 3 3/4" figures... then I saw a review for Sideshow 12"... and yup. Got hooked. Now I have to sell off some of the clones I amassed initially simply because I have little space left in my display room. I'm tempted to just expand it into two rooms lol. I'll probably have to after this Jabba/Throne comes in... and the Tumbler... and the Bat... and maybe the Batmobile.

Darn tootin rising cost changed my collecting habits. Now I pray off folks in for sale thread to catch a deal below retail so when I resell I can undercut everyone else. The waitin is killer tho.......:monkey3

Im a little more selective now but mostly because of space more then cost. If a person shops around and wait, you can still get the key figures.
If increase prices means better figures then I will pay them. I would rather have a few of todays quality then several of what these looked like 5 years ago.

It has a little bit, I have a pretty nice little collection of hot toys figures, I would have more it the price were a little less though. Not to say I can't afford the 89 joker for instance but I don't think he is worth 250+ shipping, its a great figure and I could buy it but I don't think the price is justified. I have bought multibles of some hot toys figures in the past so its not a question of can I buy it, more of a question is it worth the price. I have and will still collect hot toys figures but only if I love the piece and think its worth the asking price and alot of figures coming out latley just are not worth the price they are selling for IMO.

Same here. It's made me re-evaluate things a little more before giving in to the heat of the moment, and in the end, I just can't justify paying nearly $300 to have a figure shipped.

SSF Rules for a happy life
1. Ditch the Woman
2. Acquire toys
3. Get a cat

So according to your great words of wisdom, continue to buy toys and substitute Puss? with a pussycat. :horror

Thats not a happy life:slap I have the toys and the puss. I win:yess:

I find I've collected a broader range of things versus specifically one brand/scale/theme, price doesn't disuede me if it's something I really like but I can't give it all to HT

My room comprises of the following

Hot toys
IM, Predator and some terminator, with couple small bashes

Hasbro
Star Wars and Marvel(very few legends and a ton of universe)

Bandai
Figuarts DBZ and Damashii Gundam (a ton of gundams)

Play arts
Halo and metal gear (all releases so far)

Lol

Not too much, cause right now I'm aimed on collecting all the 1/6 avengers figures, which will not be an easy task, this year has some really awesome figures yet to be released, so I will need to choose wisely.

I think I spend as much, but I don't end up with as many things. I'm not really sure. I don't pay attention to how much money I spend.

All of it? :dunno
