I know what you mean man.

It's like the Ep1 collection Darth Sidious figure - awesome. I'm generally not a fan of sculpted plastic robes on figures, but on that Sidious figure.. it's a noteworthy example of a great sculpt making the figure pop.

Compare that to the current one with the SG robes. Although I dig it because the McDiarmid likeness is great, the underlying figure is too, & the vintage card back rocks, the SG do make it look a bit goofy.

Lots of examples actually a-dev, where the older figures still trump the super duper articulated ones.

Yeah, I think they've gone a bit crazy with the soft goods. Most glaring current example for me are the Imperial Guards. They look like they're wearing felt tents. If any figure would look better with sculpted robes and limited articulation, it's them. Also dislike the new electrocuted Vader. His robes are all over the place and there's pretty much no costume definition from the neck down. Damn you, Hasbro! *shakes fist*

I wouldn't touch a modern Royal Guard figure with a bargepole because of those damn SG. Theres just no way to get it to look right at this scale, I'm sorry. Those are definitely serious offenders. How anyone defends that is beyond me.

Its a pity too because I'm not too happy with the old Saga versions because they seem to be almost orange rather than red. And the POTF2 ones are obviously dated sculpts....still preferable to the modern tent-wearing figs though.

Can anybody kindly direct me to any websites which have the photos Kenner used for the vintage star wars cardbacks?

I see many people doing some really nice custom cardbacks but can never find where they get the photos from.

Id love to try my own :)

Well, I finally saw the Tarkin line at retail, though there were only a few there. I grabbed Vader and Hoth Luke, still need Tarkin.

Luke, while an upgrade from the last Hoth Luke, is kinda meh... Vader on the other hand might just be the best 4" version I;ve ever seen... Very cool! TRU also had the Ewok and Pilot sets out here. Both are cool, but pricey, IMO.

Yeah, that Vader is the shiz! I never thought Hasbro could trick me into another Vader figure, but it really is the best! The only thing he is lacking is the ability to hang a saber hilt on his belt.

I also picked up the Ewok set last week...very cool and worth the $$ IMO. Wasn't that impressed with the Pilot set though...left it behind.

I personally think the best Hasbro Vader was the one with the interrogator droid and cloth capes. The helmet is spot on.

I just saw the Boba Fett in Empire Battle Pack. I want that figure. It looks great! I love the flair of the helmet. If anyone wants to sell me that one, I might be interested.

Yes have luke hoth, yes really really poorly done.
Actually a lot of those figures now are poorly done imo. malgus and anh vader were the exception.
they actually look like they have 'shrunk' too if u compare them to the actual vintage figures. everything just seems 'smaller'.
but i still love the vintage packaging. and thats mostly why i collect them. nothing has or will ever come close to the vintage star wars packaging line. :clap

Anyone pick up an MTT yet? They're $130 at our WalMart. Comes with like 20 droids, which makes it seem like a pretty good deal, but was wondering what people thought about it firsthand.

So far this year I have not seen anything new. Then again I never seen any new starwars till around middle of Sept/Oct when all the summer movies stuff is gone.

Still if Vader looks cool I could add another one (I think I have 7 of them, white, BD, face, etc).

The red ones yes, the other colors no.

Most of the droids do not have articulation though. :(

Probably a good thing, since current characters are 9.99 at WalMart, this vehicle would probably run 350 if they were like the poorly articulated figures. :lol
The point to them I would guess is so you don't have to buy Ebay lots to fill your own transport.

But, I'm interested more in what is your overall thoughts on it out of box? Does it seem fairly sturdy or does it seem more gimmicky?

TRU Exclusive Millenium Falcon release date?

Does anyone know if there's a release date for the Millenium Falcon? Missed out on the Legacy version.. can't miss this one..

At the last day of CVI I picked up some old figures I had somehow missed in prior years. I got five for $20!

Dexter Jettster
Tusken Raider (female w/uli-ah)
Polis Massan
C-3PO (TVC)
Nute Gunray (TPM)
