100% agreement with the above . Only problem is now I can't look at my Bike without comparing it to yours ! And it's always been one of my favourite pieces !! Damn you ! Damn you to Hell Scallywag !!!
big guy, Nazgul-king and Thundergod. Thanks for those great comments. Rally apprecite them. LasVegas...sorry man but would not know how to reproduce them and to be honest I have at least 5 other projects on the go, three kids and a company to run...so time is very very limited.
Yesterday I mounted the trooper on the stand and cut back the leg bar on the underside of the diorama so now he is officially mounted forever.
Working on the vegetation at the moment and also fitted the lazer barrel to the underside of the bike.
The cable is a brass rod with cotton wrapped around it then painted silver. Its Ok!
I added a thin shaped piece of metal ( from around the top of a bottle of wine ) to the first section of the gun, where the barrel enters, to replicate the ILM model. Its hard to see in the pics, but its there...glued on with superglue.
I also added bronze weathering scratches to the handlebars as per the ILM model.
The bike is finished though I need to reapply the pigments weathering on the body as continual handling has taken it mostly off.
The Trooper is finished.
Just the dio to do now and we are there
Off to get some nail varnish remover to clean my airbrush. I thought I had cleaned it but being a total novice, it appears that I had not
Hope I can get the acrylics out of it!!!!!

Once I can get the airbrush working, I intend spraying some green onto the vegetation to liven it up a bit. The logs are glued in place as is the moss. Once the fluffy moss is in place, then its micro detailing the forest fllor with old rotting leaves and tiny branches etc.
The fern leaves will be a problem. I have tried two methods of preserving them:
1) submerging in glycerine ( with a few drops of a detergent ).....they turned out very very limp and looked poor.
2) Covered them in silica gel for a few days...they came out very brittle and lost a lot of their colour!
I had bought some artificial ones but they are HUGE!!
So stumped at the moment...need another re-think. Any suggestions welcome.
Once the leaves are sorted then its glue the bike to the trooper and its done! Finished
Then its the hardest job....finding somewhere to display it!

Cheers Annihilate22. Its been great building this and as I usually make model kits, very different from the normal work. Having said that, I have only re-started modelling since being a young lad and as a result have lots of partly made models and only one finished! So many skills to learn especially airbrushing...I still tend to cheat with spray cans where I can and on this sort of scale, cans work fine for me.

Ladies and Gentleman...the forest floor base is finished ( just drying at the moment )
Just need to fix the bike to the Trooper, fit his hands and the gear he is holding. Will probably use araldite metal adhesive for the bike to trooper joint ( brass rod into brass rod ) as it takes 5 mins to set. Superglue might set immediately and not leave any tweak time.
The weather is not condusive to photography at the mo, so will probably leave it till tomorrow to finally fit and take finished photographs.
Hang in there..nearly done. Must admit....its looking quite good IMHO...might need those fern type leaves though.

Pressing leaves in a book will take 2 to 3 weeks, so will display soon and add the ferns in a few weeks. Don't want to keep you guys hanging for a few weeks so pics soon and then more in a few weeks with the pressed and dried leaves.

I saw in a modelling magazine a technique for creating foliage for dioramas . It involved a sort of "hole punch" which cut leaf-shaped holes . The modeller used this to cut holes in real leaves and the bits "punched out " were then used on dioramas .

Great minds eh? I bought one of these last year and have created leaves for the Endor forest floor base already. The fern leaves I need are much larger...but thanks for the idea

I remember seeing part IV with my Dad on its release. When the Imperial Destroyer came into shot at the beginning, the audience went wild, standing clapping cheering...it was something the like of which, we had never seen before. You have to understand the impact because British audiences just did not do that sort of thing ( still don't!)
And just because I know you have all been sitting there, on the edge of your collective seats...waiting for news...

Mine is actually a three in one...three different leaves
They are really great and the leaves look good, though it takes hours to make them in large quantities. Fortunately I made a few hundred late last year for a dio idea I had but have not got around to..so I have borrowed a few for Endor.
Actually, it might not be Endor...could be another forest type planet as its not a scene from the movies. Besides we could not run the risk that those bloody teddy bears might be about somewhere!

On the subject of physical models versus C.G , I bet people would be surprised to learn that there were more physical models used in "The Phantom Menace " than in the entire original trilogy ! ( This includes model sets and scenery ) .
Now I did not know that...I have learnt something today...thank you Thundergod.
However, nowadays it appears to be almost all CGI. I think there is a difference between static buildings etc as models and flying Physical models. Looking at something like Prometheus...which looked like all CGI flying models.
Personally I think Physical models look better and they of course give us years of trying to spot the kit parts used

I am adding some additional bits to the tropper uniform. As mentioned, this is not a scene from a movie, or even Endor. Plus this is a seasoned pro Imperial Trooper...not one of those muppets beaten by the tiny bears, so it make sense that this guy has some different kit, lile the Sniper rifle and macro binoculars I built for him.
So out comes a new pack of milliput...

I have been working on two ammo pouches, based on the German WW2 MP40 pouches as used on the Stormtroopers.
They are made of Milliput, with styrene inserts for the magazines. The straps are again metal foil from a wine bottle ( theres a theme here ) and the strap retainers are painted ribbon.
I also made a bag from milliput for his back with a decal from a 1/24th scale truck. I see this as the Troopers emergency medical kit.
You may see that the Trooper seems to be attached to the bike...well he is!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Araldite Metal adhesive is drying, which should take 4 hours to achieve max strength. Since I have only just glued it, it will get overnight to go fully hard.
In order to get the right angle, the tail had to be counter weighted as the bike is nose heavy.
A paint pot, my watch and a paint tin were spot on as counter weights.
Once the glue is full set between the bike and the trooper, its just a case of fitting the pouches, finally position the Troopers arms and Voila....Done.
Well with a bit more pigment weathering on the bike.
Pics soon. Maybe a couple of days as its pissing it down here and I want to take pics outside to get the natural sunlight.

Nice update. Looking forward to seeing more pics. You might have mentioned this and I missed it, but are you going to pose him like the Gentle Giant statue?
That was the initial intention and the image that sparked this build...but as the build progressed, I wanted something more dynamic...to show off the Troopers as the elite force within the Imperial army. ( see earlier in thread ).
The idea here is that this Trooper is " an old salt" or "old flame" Military expressions meaning an older, experienced soldier...seen it all. Such a soldier would be a leader of men and highly respected fighters.
Here's a question, within the Star Wars movies, are there ways of differentiating between ranks? How can you tell one rank from another when in say SW, all the Storm Troopers appeared to be identical?
Maybe I have never looked properly?
I will be removing the counter weights tonight....just to give it extra setting time ...just in case.....Excited and a little worried at the same time.
