Nope. The people defending it are in no way intellectual or making a good argument for it. Comparing to Call of Duty or simply saying mass murders will happen anyway so who cares, just shows how misguided you guys are.

Tell me this. What is there to gain from this game? What does this stimulate inside you emotionally? Alien : Isolation is a violent game out now that is highly successful and getting none of this backlash, it instills a sense of fear and dread. Call of Duty invokes a sense of over the top action movie heroism. What does this game do for you?

Read the user comments from that video as most of them are against what they say and point out what hypocrites they are.
One side builds their argument over emotional responses (BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!) versus the other side which looks at it objectively, intellectually, and without fear mongering.

You can't use the argumentum ad populum based on youtube comments...

Objectively, Intellectually... no way, I've studied the scientific method and I use it daily at work and I know there is nothing remotely rational in thinking that playing games is "brainless" like you said before. It is not rational to compare a horror movie to this game, its not rational to say any action game is like this one

Defending this game doesn't make you rational. Building a good argument does, and I doubt anyone can make a good argument to defend this game because only a special kind of person would play a game just to be a monster and enjoy watching people scream and suffer. Even if it wasn't controversial this game lacks substance, is and will always be a bad game

FPSs reward headshots. Yes they do! Is that a good thing? Something you're proud to put your "logic" and "rational thinking" into defending?

We should actually put our logic, rational thinking (and emotions, too!) into meditating about WHY do we enjoy these games.

I played all Crysis games, and I love them. But the killing bothers me to some point. (In fact, I once played Crysis 2 trying to avoid killing humans as much as the gameplay allowed, because if I has Prophet, that's what I'd be doing. He doesn't ENJOY killing the enemy). The true enemy was the Ceph invaders, and my goal was to save humans as much as possible, not kill them. In this, I do agree context has a lot to do with it, story-wise.

Certainly if at any point I'd played an FPS merely to experience some kind of twisted enjoyment at killing, I'd be very concerned. It's wrong to ENJOY the fantasy of killing or maiming people, guys.

I agree, all that killstreak / achievement porn in modern FPS games is quite disgusting and disturbing.

Still, it's a reward system for disposing of your enemies in the most efficient way while they're in the same position.

okay, without any of the controversy, without the backlash and all the publicity, if this came out for free to be played online or something,


the game to me doesn't look that fun or appealing. the gameplay looks boring and the lack of color makes it not pleasing. feels like a bad nightmare. I am sure it was done that way o purpose but it sucks, it doesn't look great in black and white

also, how hard will the game become? will the cops shoot and kill you? will there be any kind of missions? different levels?

how long can a game be without any missions or any kind of guidance?


Also, the only good thing about this game, the only thing that would have me interested... Some people were talking about modding the game to make the character look like Arnold in the terminator, or to look like Neo from the matrix. If somehow they were able to do that then it would be interesting.

But then again there are mods for Grand Theft Auto auto already, so even the possibility of a mod doesn't even seem that great

Seriously, what's with the red herring, it's ridiculous. This far down in the thread and you and the guy below are now giving your diagnosis to people who don't buy into your argument. Misguided, that's even funnier. You sound like an over-bearing, college professor who thinks he knows more than everyone else.

Brainless is a figure of speech, but I guess instead of debating the main points of this game/its right to exist, you want to now dissect my words, giving them new meaning, the meanings I never intended. You're so lost waxing philosophical, that you're now stating rational comparisons are irrational. You're willfully ignorant of what it is or you just can't admit it.

I like how you infer the people who might play this game, are messed up. You know nothing about anyone, of who you speak of, yet here you are, the Dali Lama of this thread, spreading your Gospel. It doesn't matter if it's based in reality or factual. Please break out the stats and show us, via statistics, all of the gamers who mass-murder people. 58% of Americans play games, that's around 184 million people. How many of those people mass-murdered their fellow citizens over the last few decades, directly as a result of games like Postal, CoD, etc.? There is no proof that video games, have caused anyone, to go out and mass murder people. Sure they try to prove it, but they always fail, and it goes back to the part about video games don't make people do these things. MOVIES have a much bigger affect on mentally disturbed people, but yea, it's such a totally irrational comparison.

I'm sorry the both of you cannot accept that normal, well-adjusted, responsibly people, who've never wanted to hurt anybody, can and will play this game. They are not monsters. This game will not cause them to go "postal" but I'm sure you'll be waiting to pin anything that happens, on this game. That is, if it ever sees the light of day. If it does come out maybe you can have game burnings? The press would eat it up, too bad you can't burn 1's and 0's.

well w/e if i cant play this brainless shooter ill just go on a brainless rampage in gta or kill a bunch of random players that are deemed to be terrorists to "justify" my actions in cod/BF. but if they're the terrorists and kill me, part of the "good" side and get rewarded for it, isnt that a bad thing then?

why the **** do they want to kill me? for their K/D. thats all the solo players care about in COD. they dont care if im part of the U.S. army or terrorist. just like this game is all about killing and hopefully it has a body counter so you can go on the interwebs and show off your new high score

No one said this game would make people want to try mass murder at home, I'm only talking about the prupose of this game and its implications. I, like many others, have the freedom of saying this game is totally lame and lacks in every way possible

You can't accept that this strucks a nerve on many people, its not something for entertainment. Humans are very empathic creatures, though some seem to lack empathy and like to think they are rational because of that

You keep claiming I like this game, when I've made it very clear, that I am arguing for free speech. This means allowing something to exist when is not breaking any laws.
