2 many Gr8 Statues!!!
From another poll, around 75% (of 28 people) hardly ever buy statues with which they have little or no interaction with the character.

Do you ever do the opposite? Bought a really beautiful comic book character statue with which you have had little or no interaction with the character and then started reading the comic to more fully appreciate your beautiful piece?

e.g. Started reading the Punisher after you bought the Punisher Comiquette

How many fkn threads have you started? :slap

You should just have one thread with all your questions all wrapped up in one magical wonderful little world of a thread :wave

Nope...don't read comics. Haven't read a comic since 1992, but I'll buy that occasional comic for the cover art. That's the fullest extent that I'll go with comics nowadays.

:hi5: yes I do the exact samething! :1-1: I only read 2 or 3 issues in my life time because I liked the art.

Anyone who never read X-Force want to sell me their Exclusive X-Force dio for retail?

Ex. Vampirella comiquette owners who can't be bothered to learn who the anonymous piece of synthetic ass they're drooling over actually is? I have $350 +shipping for you.

No...I'm the opposite. I'm a comic reader first. If I didn't enjoy the comics I probably wouldn't be buying the statues.

It wasn't a superhero but I did begin reading a manga because of a statue.

Look at this statue and try telling me you don't want to start reading Vagabond (which is worth it for the artwork alone).

I'm a "read first buy statue later" kind of a guy. If I liked the comics character and the statue is a [relatively] faithful reproduction, I'll give it a look or two and then decide if I'm going to buy it. Trust me, there are a LOT of superhero figure and statues out there that I would love to own, but it IS an expensive hobby...

If i like the statue il buy it! Couldnt give a stuff if the character is known or not!

I collected comics first before statues. Final crisis and siege are excellent reads.

Oh I need to look into that statue!
Now on topic: not exactly. What i've done is see some cool statues (Vampirella, Psylocke, Lady Death...) and got curious about the characters so I looked them up. IF I like the premise of the comic I'd read some and IF I really like it I'd buy it.

Only once. Started reading Hulk after I bought a Grey Hulk PF. That was around the time Planet Hulk was released.

Probably an ignorant blanket statement, but hey, this is sideshowfreaks: only posers would buy statues of characters they have no idea about. That's cool if it gets you interested upon seeing it, like Drakul said, but beyond that it's a wtf response from me.

I can see buying something that is super nice looking if you have a passing interest in the character. However, if I didn't know ANYTHING about a character I wouldn't pick it up no mater how nice it looked.

I felt the exact same way until I saw the Arthas statue. To this day I know next to nothing about the character and do not play video games. However, I was absolutely blown away with how great the sculpt and production pics looked. When I saw the piece, I knew I had to have it. It doesn't even fit into my collection as I have mostly Marvel and a few DC pieces. I don't care. I'll find some place to put him.

Get on it! Arthas' story is awesome!:stick

I mostly agree, but if I weren't a broke freelancer with very limited room, I'd probably find the Honey Trap line irresistible, provided Gentle Giant would keep up the quality they've shown on their Sucker Punch statues, which they probably will.

So yes, due to such prosaic restrictions, some previous emotional attachment is a requirement for me.

There's lots of people that bought Iron Man statues and only know him from the movies and never read an Iron Man comic.
