I just finished the first season of Rome on dvd tonight. I must say that the quality of this show was absolutley amazing. This is probably one of the best shows I have ever seen and looked just as real as any movie I have ever seen.

I love other HBO shows like Deadwood, Sopranos, and The Wire...

...but this was a very fast paced show compared to the others. I did a little reading while watching the show and it seems that for the most part the show had historical accuracy.

I HIGHLY recommend this series to anyone who like movies such as Gladiator, Sparticus, Braveheart, or Kingdom of Heaven. The second, and LAST, season is to air on HBO early 2007.

I watched it and then bought the DVD of the first season. Ancient History is one of my specialties and I have to say, the historical detail was phenomenal.
The BBC did a series of docu-dramas about various Emperors and the same guy played Crassus (I think) in the Julius Caesar episode.

There can never be enough full frontal beauty on TV!!! Polly Walker was sublime:monkey5
Although the well endowed slave who was given as a present did make me feel just a touch inadequate!!!

Speaking of such things....Have you checked out ignites 12" Romans. I had Caesar delivered yesterday and the newly announced Aquilifer looks excellent.

I absolutely loved this series when it was on the BBC here. Has anyone heard about a second season or anything? I've not heard a thing

Yes, the second season will air early 2007 (I do not know official date). Also, the second season will be the LAST.

I believe January 7 is the official start date... If you would like you may wear this banner which was made for me by RoboDad and which I will proudly wear again after Christmas...

This is currently my favorite show too along with Battlestar Galactica (still hasn't toppled my favorite show of all time, Northern Exposure though).

Yep, I absolutely love this series! Best thing HBO has ever put out, makes Sopranos look like My Two Dads.

Unfortunately it was the most expensive ting HBO ever did as well, that's why the 2nd season is the last.

Managed to catch it also back when. Absolutely riveting. Love the historical period and the acting was great. I got choked up when Vorenus saved Pullo in the gladiator ring. :monkey2 I normally don't buy TV shows on DVD, but I think this (and the 2d installment) will be keepers and will prolly watch them as an appetizer for my annual viewing of "I Claudius." (STILL the best dam miniseries ever made -- EVAH!!!)

I was watching it but somehow I missed the last few. When are they startoing the next series? HBO likes to rerun shows before the next season so hopefully I can catch the last few then.

I think the first six episodes are on ON DEMAND right now.

I'm a huge fan of both. All I can say is that Dexter and Rome both have excellent writing, directing and acting. Rome is definitely worth watching.

"Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?"

"You ever been in a ****pit before?"

"You ever seen a grown man naked?"

"Joey, have you ever been to a Turkish prison?"
