At first, I thought "wait a minute, was this the first episode of GoT without a *** in it?" Then I thought "never mind, I forgot about Ed Sheeran."

I'm trying to anticipate who will die among those who are left, and Bear Island girl is pretty high up the list. Podrick, as well.

Great first episode! :clap

"The North Remembers!" Arya Stark.

"Shall we begin?" Daenerys Stormborn

At least in the intermediate time frame there are few people who are so heavily invested by the storylines in the show that you know they are safe. Tyrion Dany Jon the Hound Arya bran Sansa. Beyond that you are right but I think you can set the probability at lower or higher levels based on what they've done to similar kinds of characters in the past.

Probably Arya. I bet Cersei is going to catch her in an assassination attempt.

They built up her character and this plot line over every season so far. If she does end up biting it it'll probably be near the very end. But I think instead she'll be more responsible for getting rid of another major.

When you go back and re-watch/re-read, the only real shocker was Ned. None of the other main characters have died. Well Jon did but they brought him back. Robb was never really a main character. Yes, the show built its reputation on shocking deaths you didn't see coming, but here we are in season 7 and the main characters are all still in play.

GRRM didn't spend all this time developing these characters to kill them all. I imagine the story will go to its logical conclusion, with Dany or Jon or both sitting on the throne after defeating the white walkers. Maybe Tyrion will sacrifice himself or something. Anyway, I have avoided spoilers so I am just speculating. I want to find out as it happens. Nothing worse than book readers spoiling stuff....glad they can't do it any more. But now there are people who spied on the film sets that could potentially spoil stuff.

That and I think Cersei will eat it too, either from Daenerys or Jamie. I hope the Lannister couple gets jailed.

Alright, the requisite time has passed to openly talk about the episode, methinks.

Some random musings...

-Ain't gonna lie, I literally pumped my fist and said "YASSS!!!" :yess: when the episode started and I saw Walder Frey, who was obviously Arya in disguise, and I knew that she was going to get her revenge.

-Jon Snow showing he's not as rigid and beholden to the old ways of the North as his "father" Ned Stark and his "brother" Rob Stark. Also, does anyone know if Lady Mormont (is her first name Lyanna?) is Jorah's daughter? I seem to remember he had a wife and child.

-Not sure where the storyline of Arya with the Lannister soldiers goes, if it goes anywhere. However, that segment did do a good job of humanizing the Lannister foot soldiers. Every episode before last night pretty much showed all Lannister troops as cruel or just "bad guys", to oversimplify things. Honestly, I thought that after inviting Arya to dine with them, they were going to attempt to have their way with her.

-I liked wisecracking Dolorous Edd when Grenn and Jon Snow were with him in the night's watch, but I like Dolorous Edd, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch better. The mantle suits him.

-I want to see Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr standing side by side with flaming swords along with Sandor Clegane against the dead.

In comparison to "Hardhome", "Battle of the *******s", or even "Hold the Door" (for the emotional gutpunch), last night's episode wasn't a great episode...but as Karamazov mentioned earlier, it set things and motion, and frankly, it's good to have the best show on TV back. While it kind of sucks to know that the end is near, at least the show didn't drag on and lose my interest, like The walking Dead did.

You bring up something I was thinking about where Sansa criticizes John for being like their brother and father. But as I understand it he's actually being much more pragmatic and not throwing the old families out of those castles and instead using all the resources that are at their disposal now. Both Ned and Rob would have instead done the moral and righteous thing which is not to compromise with people who had betrayed you in the past. I think the chance encounter with Lannisters in the woods isn't going to go anywhere. I was actually thinking that she would kill them all even after they humanize themselves. But this was before I knew that one of these guys was a well-known pop singer. Cersei and Jamie probably won't make it that much further into the show. I think both of their character arcs are coming to an end. But the others that I mentioned still have many more unresolved issues to deal with. Would seem appropriate for Jamie to go down in battle with Brienne of Tarth. Although I can also Imagine him reliving his experience with the Mad King and being forced to kill his own sister.

Yup, to hell with TWD. Also, you can't expect the first episode of the season to hit hard. The story is coming to an end, amazingly.

Cameo didn't bother me cause I had no idea who that guy was anyway.

What did bother me is how once again everyone bows to the wit and wisdom of a 10 year old girl. That's some weird Episode One level stuff; when Naboo elected a little girl as their leader.

I don't think it's "cute" or "badass"....I just think it's really silly.
To be fair this show had a great amount of dreadful or stupid children before her so it's cool. Hearing that she wants to fight makes me think her days are numbered. :/

I was hoping for Daenerys to find the Red Woman or someone else at Dragonstone instead of just a quick tour.

I thought the magic only worked up there

Is that a real rule? I don't know. I assumed Night King just grows his army as he moves into new lands with new graves. Also seems like a good way for the writers to bring back dead characters to challenge their killers. Like for the Hound. And Cersei's kids can all gang up on her. Etc...

Yes, but winter is coming. He will raise the dead from all over.

Since Ser Gregor is already "dead" maybe he'll become an agent for Night King -- or if he's halfway then he has a big decision to make.

Is Ser Gregor dead or half alive? If he's dead then instant come up for the night king. He already has giants on his team.
