Another really great episode. I like the fact that the shocking twist (usually a death) doesn't seem to be a hallmark of this show in the way that it was on GOT. Instead, it's more focused on the methodical rollout of the story. In a way, I'm surprised they didn't double down instead, like they are with the Boys, going for bombast and the hype of what will crazy thing will happen in next week's episode over straight storytelling.

Strange that they released both series at the same time. They shouldn't be compared however with the parallel release they are.
I think there is a natural point of comparison since Bezos apparently got this out of asking for his own "Game of Thrones," and obviously there is a fantasy core to both, but it is pretty hard to compare two shows with such different orientations and goals. It's like comparing Monty Python with the Big Bang Theory.

Well, they're both fantasy series, they cater to pretty much the same audience, one with a slant towards younger, the other more towards older. Both come from beloved franchises, both are based on books/literary sources...
So I really don't see why they shouldn't be compared. It's not like The Rings of Power is a children's show.
Besides, the comparison goes towards the craft of filmmaking. One so far has very interesting characters with great dialogue, the other has mostly walking clichés reciting uninspired lines. Just as an example...

The overuse of dragon action was my worry going into this so its refreshing to see them return to the political plots.
this is what I'm looking forward to in Andor.
Please let it be political machinations and mind *****!!
and of course some action sprinkled through...

So I assume the time jump will happen in next weeks ep?
from the trailer it seems everyone has changed and the baby is now a teen?

Yeah the characters in House of the Dragon have been a little cliché if I'm being honest. Despite that I'm still liking it.

If so, real slow.

Another great episode yesterday. I'm really liking this show. Love the focus on the political scheming instead of bombastic dragon action.
There'll be a whole lot of that bombastic dragon action in season 2 for the Dance of the Dragons though. They'll have to up the budget a bit I'd imagine.

Medicine doesn't seem to have advanced much in the 200 years between this and Game of Thrones. . .in fact, there isn't much about culture (dress, behavior) that seems to have changed dramatically beyond who is in charge.

I suspect part of this is a function of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" in regard to the "world building" of Game of Thrones, but it may also be Martin's idea. I suppose you could excuse it by saying that the Targaryn society was akin to Rome, in that they developed quickly for awhile, then stagnated, and ultimately rotted away from the inside before collapsing, with the final nail being Jaime's killing of the Mad King. By the time House of Dragon starts they are pining for the past when they had more dragons than you could count and forged the empire. At this point the kingdom isn't as surefooted as it once was. Presumably this would be the cultural and technological hub of the known world, so if they rested too much on their laurels then you wouldn't see much change.

I haven't read the book, but that does sound quite awesome. I definitely don't mind Dragon action, but I'm glad the show is a lot more than just that at the moment.

Totally, fantastic writing and character development. I don’t think the dragon fights will overshadow the story, the writing is just too good. There are some awesome dragons coming up soon though. Look out for Vhagar the beast of beasts.
