It’s because Nolan took elements of comic book the Killing Joke.I love that he's always changing his story. That it's all shrouded in mystery, and never stated explicitly.
I suppose the truth lies inbetween. His father must have been abusive. Maybe he had a softer spot for his mother, who also suffered at his father's hand. Maybe he had a relationship that went awry. Someone he deeply cared about. Maybe it ended in tragedy.
Or maybe it's none of that actually.
I wonder what story he would have told, before Batman tossed him off a building. Another piece to the puzzle perhaps.

2.) The big one that the Dark Knight is about is “All takes is one bad day….”
The whole movie was joker way’s of showing people’s true colors and that pushed over the edge you would slip into madness like gravity just like him.
