Zack Snyder is brilliant... I think he has such a strong vision for this universe, but I think it's a vision that rubs a lot of people up the wrong way because it goes against their expectations of where they want all the characters to be.
I just watched the ultimate edition of BvS again last night, and I have to say, all the people that are thinking Wonder woman is being pushed front and center because her film did well are simply wrong. Snyder made such a magnificent casting choice with Gal Gadot that people missed in this film. Seeing Wonder Woman and then her performance in BvS you can see all her subtle brilliance she brought to her solo film. And more than that, she stands out as the titular hero in the film. Not only is she the only character to have such a clear and in your face music theme play throughout the film, which is carried into her solo outing, but she stands front and centre in the first trinity shot of the DCEU as a character that hasn't been manipulated or played, but as a character that see's something is wrong and has to go back to help. I think it's pretty evident that Snyder meant for her to be the leading character of the universe. I don't think it's a mistake that her appearing in BvS was such a big thing with her continuous music score bursting out of the film or being the front and centre of the trinity.
Also I really ****ing loved where he had the characters in the film. I think the opening sequence before the title where Bruce is running towards the destruction seeing Superman completely destroy Metropolis and the final shot of his complete rage at Superman set the tone and scene perfectly - it's here that Batman is hellbent on killing someone so powerful, moreso than anything he would have dealt with before. I think that's the tipping point in a world with already built-in history (Joker/Robin/burned down Wayne Manor) that obviously says this is a Batman past his prime who is hopeless. I don't think all of this was so subtle that people that don't like the film missed, although I still think a tonne of people take the Martha scene at such face value of, oh ours mum's share the same name hurdur, but I think it's such an interesting jumping off point for the universe - and JL is very clearly a natural progression from this of building to a team of heroes that people are more accustomed to. Personally I wish we got to see more of Batman in his BvS mindset with the horror approach and with his aesthetic. I'll always loathe that such a thing will never be possible now due to the backlash.
