This from Plastic Enemies Facebook page. More pics from Ant-Man and an Howard Chan Interview there. Would be great if someone could translate the interview!

I see. Luckily I don't need the "illusion of flight" or anything like that, I just want as close to an actual 1/6 TIE Fighter as I can get. I don't see support struts as any different then all the stands we use to hold up 12 inch figures. Sure it takes away the illusion of them just standing there but honestly when I look at my figures I don't even really notice the stands anymore.
Yeah, I can get that. I'm not saying it wouldn't be an outstanding display, regardless, but if HT can make the support invisible by incorporating the metal strut into the wing arm and increase the build quality, seems like a win/win. Ideally I'd like a display like this free standing and not in a giant cabinet or on a pedestal or shelf.

I wonder if 1/6 collectors would be interested in smaller-scale vehicles from HT, say a four-foot long Falcon and other vehicles scaled off of that. Sure they wouldn't be 1/6, but they'd be much more feasible from a production standpoint, no?

I'm sure that people would love it but the question is licensing. Whether HT has a license that could make things that aren't 1:6. That might be the real sticking point.

Regardless I'd want a 1:6 TIE, I don't even mind the metal supports either.

From HT facebook:
At this year’s Ani-Com and Games Hong Kong (ACGHK), Hot Toys will bring a “Star Wars Galaxy Exhibition Powered by Hot Toys” to the exciting annual event! Following the 1/6th scale Millennium Falcon teaser we have shared yesterday, we have some more news to share with you all on what else will be displayed at the exhibition!
Earlier at San Diego Comic-Con, Hot Toys has shown a 1/6th scale TIE Fighter prototype that has surprised many Star Wars fans with its size and great details all around! And now, we will be bringing TIE fighters to the upcoming ACGHK and showcase them for the first time in Asia!
Star Wars fans remember to come to Hot Toys’ booth (E15-16) to check them out between July 24 – 28!

So they're calling it a "prototype" not a display piece and they're bringing more than one to Ani-Con. I think I need a bigger house...

It will be nice to find out for certain whether they will be actually making the Tie Fighter available for sale. Hopefully the HT staff at the event will actually know this information.

Sure, but wouldn't it be better if they built it right and we didn't have to look at metal struts? Honestly, I just don't get the idea of trying to save a few bucks by not having the best build quality possible. A 1:6 TIE is something I wouldn't have thought possible as a mainstream release prior to this SDCC, so crossing my fingers that HT is not listening to you guys (;)) and builds this in such a way that sagging wings are not a concern. Also hoping the wings themselves are one solid piece. If they cut a bunch of corners then my interest will be greatly diminished. Guess it'll be price dependent at that point.

Would flimsy wings or an overall chintzy Tie Fighter surprise you though? It's the same company that didn't listen to people about ED-209's rubber deterioration and repeated the same mistake on their 2.0 version years later. It's the same company that let faulty wiring and broken wheel axles from shoddy construction slip into their Tumbler vehicles. They sent out crooked/bent TDKR Batpods and scratched '89 Batmobiles!

You pay for the size and the detail really, not necessarily the construction.

Wow - a new era in 1/6 has begun. The mega-1/6-vehicle era is upon us.

A 1/6 TIE and X-Wing displayed on wires from a high ceiling would be about as awesome a display was SW fans could imagine.

Oh, absolutely agreed (I have an ED still boxed up in my basement I need to get around to applying a rubber moisterizer to or sealing with Mod Podge, depending on what I discover when I open the box). I expect shoddy workmanship (with a really nice veneer -- at least to start) to be honest, but am hoping against hope that due to the scale of the TIE (and the license itself) that HT will go the extra mile and make it to last.

Exactly. Considering cases like these, I'm very happy with the EFX Collectibles TIE Fighter studio scale. I'm not an EFX cheerleader nor a hater, but they deserve praise for their awesome TIE, despite some minor issues on some, the EFX studio scale is a fantastic replica true to its screen used origins.

Yessir. My wallet is ready!

There's some debate about the size of a TIE fighter (seen on the diagram I used) but the "gold standard" is the Dykstra photo showing both X-Wings and a TIE same-scale models in the same plane. The accepted length of an X-Wing is 12.5 meters, so I used that to come up with these two images.

I scaled the TIE comparison diagram to be 12.5m next to the in-the-same-plane-as-the-TIE X-Wing. It shows the largest TIE in the diagram equates to the size of the TIE model. Seems the HT TIE fighter is based on the (smaller) middle dimension, not the "correct" larger one.

I also took the TIE comparison diagram and scaled the height of the HT stormie (which is in the same plane as the HT TIE wing) to approx average stormie height 1.8m - it also shows the HT TIE is based on that 7.5m middle dimension, not the larger correct-to-filming-model dimension. You can kind of see why - a correct scaled 1/6 TIE wing would stand a little over 6 feet tall!:lol

That's the worst news I've heard in a while. I was hoping this was all a dream, now yes, I'll be looking for a new house. :lol

LMAO. I have no idea how I will afford this but I really want this. I hope there is a very generous FlexPay on this one and that it's cheaper than we're all expecting.

How do you know it's not a design issue and not build issues?

Also..as for knowing for sure if this will be for sale...hot toys doesn't even know. They have not made a choice. The show is to gauge interest and see how it holds up in shipping. They don't know yet.

I'm thinking it'll come in at $1200 before shipping.

I feel it will be a lot more than $1200, it seems to be close to 5 ft tall in height. That's probably 4 times the height of Hulkbuster.

Well it looks like from the "prototype" comment HT is gonna actually produce this beast. For an item that big I say you all would be lucky if it came in under 2K.

Price, as many have stated, will be the deciding factor in purchasing this beast. I have the room to display it but will $$$ be right...

I can always fall back on the EFX Tie if the price turns out to be high. I'm hoping other manufacturers are watching and decide to build us some SW vehicles and not have it take 2-3 years to complete.
