I really hate when they try to "reimagine" a character and change it into something totally different to fit the "modern spirit".

Well to be fair burton put his own spin on the batman legacy with his films. This was a batman who straight up MURDERED a bunch of thugs in axis chemicals by exploding the crap out of them with the batmobile, strapped a bomb to that giant red triangle gang members chest and Smiled before double fist punching him in the face before it detonated, and really didn't seem all that interested in turning the joker over to the police when he had him in the crosshairs of the machine guns and rockets he shot at him. That being said, whenever a new author, director, or actor takes over an established character it's now their imagining of the character and nowhere is that more clear than in the batman franchises be it the comics, films, or television shows. That's what makes him such an interesting and dynamic hero. If you want the corny funny cheese of the 60s show its there, if you like the gothic brooding silent batman then Burton's got you covered, and for a more realistic approach then there's the Nolan films. There's a batman for all tastes and to me it seems that the characteristics that "define" batman are getting harder to pin down because there are just so many iterations.

To be fair, Batman murdered in his original incarnation, as well, though. He mowed criminals down with a machine gun mounted bi-plane and snapped their necks and all sorts of lethal action.

I dont really consider ledger to be a real joker IMO. he may have gotten some facets of the character, but overall at the end of the day he was just your average serial killer albeit in crappily applied facepaint and dyed hair, no different really then Michael myers or any such random movie killer that has been done to death a million times before. Nicholson WAS the joker, completely like the comic book, dark, eerie, yet clownish and had that killer sense of humor that only the joker can have. the guy was virtually born to play this part.He made you laugh but also made you cringe. That to me is the joker. ledger for me, isn't exactly what you'd call the joker. I really hate when they try to "reimagine" a character and change it into something totally different to fit the "modern spirit". if that means taking a great character and turning him into some kinda pshycho pseudo-confucious babbler, then no thanks. same thing with zod in the new superman. better then Terence stamp? ....no. definely not.

If you see my reply to lava, I sort of have the same reply for you. Ledger's Joker is authentic; it's just that it's authentic to a different interpretation than Jack's. Nicholson pretty much embodied post-60's Joker, but Ledger's is pretty spot-on when you look back to the characters roots. Batman #1's Joker featured facial scars (like Ledger), a sinister demeanor (like Ledger's), and a penchant for creating chaos (like Ledger's); he also didn't rely on the gags as much as our modern day Joker does.

Absolutely! And if you've checked out Frank Millers All Star Batman and Robin run Millers take this time around is to turn Bats into an absolute psychopath. What I'm saying is there are so many different takes on Batman that I don't think anyone can say that one version is any more representative of the character than another. Batman means so many things to so many people which is what makes him such a great hero in my opinion.

Batman #1 Joker didn't have scars. He was an older looking clown with permanent white skin that was interested in money and jewels.

Only similarity was that they both anounces crimes (at midnight . . .), used knives and wore a police uniform.

The mouth's my mistake. Those are his cheeks I was looking at. Still, though, announcing crimes and such. It's clear they got quite bit of their interpretation from the original Joker.

I might be wrong but did Joker's first appearance already established that his white skin is permanent and not make up?

In another early issue (his second appearance I think in the same year) when he "dies" he's seen shirtless in the ambulance. His entire chest/back is white.

So yeah he was always permanently white, even before his origin.

VERY good points you have raised here mate! I personally really liked Ledger and the whole Nolan Batman universe, it was different and goes with all those 'alternate worlds' comics often come up with. I liked it (though the idea was stretched and a tad boring in the end) but you are right when you say that Nicholson played THE JOKER, in the same way Hamil does - to me they ARE the joker, as he was introduced in the comics and what comic lovers grew up with and loved through-out these years. Nolan verse was fun while it latest, but (for the time being) Burtonverse will always be the best interpretation to the comics (and yeah, I know it was not dead on either, but it WAS closer)

does anyone know when these will be coming out? im anxious to see what the penguin figure is going to look like

I know when, but I don't want to tell anyone.. Haha..

It has been a while. The original HT brief was for an announcement last Christmas. So.. Maybe we will see something very soon.

I an expecting The Bat, The Cat and The Bird. Really hoping they do the tear away cowl with a Keaton portrait. In fact, I am sure they will. The face under the mask now seems to a given.

People that are expecting a baby don't have to wait near this long. :lol

They should change their name to 'Maybesomeday Toys'. :lecture

You dont need any licencing for a baby ;) Just have to be sensible married or sensible unmarried and or completely careless insensible in a binge party....jk...
