Hot Toys sure missed a trick...

Another board member couldn't complete a sale of one of these because of missing parts, so I had to go to EBay to get one. It was a buy it now or best offer, I didn't have to pay too much more for it, but at least this one is MISB and so I don't have to worry about anything missing, wore parts, or loose joints from reposing and displaying.

My consensus was pretty much mentioned by fellow freaks like Robbie and Evilface but here are the reasons why I think this tanked (I'm still really glad I have one and like it a lot)

1. Hot toys took too damn long to make it. They snoozed on the hype of the lisence and by the time it came out no one cared anymore.
2. They should have started with Nyteri. Now this is a little bit the opposite of the problem with the Watchmen as they did start with the main character but they didn't start with the most popular and they've pulled off this moronic idiot move too many times before. Watchmen got killed by starting with Specter, first class never got off the ground because they started with Xavier and not Magneto. They are going to kill Prometheus both because its been too long and because they are doing Shaw and not the Eingineer.
3. The design of the character, jake looks pretty cool all things considered but lets face it the movies strong point was not the character design it was the effects and the experience. The characters always reminded me of poor anatomically incorrect badly proportioned cheesy fairies that a 13 year old girl would draw.

:goodpost: All this, plus there's no companion piece to display this blue doll with. The fact he is huge doesn't help.

I'm happy with the figure... Looks great in my collection and is one people notice either because thy loved or hated the movie :lol

I have this figure and it is a beautiful looking figure. I don't know why people would prefer the human clothed Jake Na'vi over this war paint version. Perhaps a screaming head sculpt would have been more popular, but I don't have any issues with the final sculpt.

I think seeing as the majority of collectors are men, they are more interested in robots, machines and Superheroes hence the popularity of Iron Man armours, Terminators, RoboCop, Marvel and DC.

I also think if Neytiri had been made first, there would have been issues with having rooted hair and people not being too fond of owning "dolls".

I believe in the end it was just the very long delay it took for this figure to be released. It was released in 2012 and the film was released in late 2009. A more than 2 year wait for a figure from a new film is a bad idea. They already have most of GotG on pre order now and the film has barely been in cinemas.

Prometheus is dead because they didn't release anything when the movie was out. I know a lot of people don't like that film and now it seems hip to rag on Avatar, but they are a heck of a lot better than Iron Man 3, which doesn't deserve so many figures being made from it, particularly The Mandrin, I mean what a joke that is!
