Hey all,

I'm new here and really excited by all the cool 12" figures and love the Iron Man ones. I showed the online pics to a friend of mine and he said, "What are those things? Barbie dolls for men??" Do people really look at them that way? I don't like how they are considered by some as Barbie dolls! I think they are too detailed and cool to be Barbies!

What say you? Ever heard that before?

Welcome to the boards AW!

I've been told on only one occassion that my HT's were dolls, but I don't let comments like that get under my skin. It was a buddy of mine busting my balls when he made that comment. It is what it is and I enjoy collecting them. That's all that matters.

The Iron Man stuff isnt really dolls....but by definition the clothed figures are dolls.

But we MEN pefer to call them ACTION FIGURES.

You showed the HT Iron Man pics to your friends and they likened them to dolls? That's strange. Of all the HT figures out there, the Iron Man ones seems more akin to standard action figures least like the clothed doll-like figures from other lines. Wait, how old are your friends? Are they from the era when all action figures were called 'dolls'? (like G.I. Joes). But yeah 12" clothed action figures, HT or not, are basically dolls.

I know some soccer moms who still call all video games "the Nintendo", so yeah you just have to ignore 'em and wait until they all die off.

No no, I meant I love the Iron Man ones and others and showed some pics of Iron Man and others to my friend and he said they were Barbies for men. I don't think the Iron Man ones look like dolls, but maybe the clothed ones do a bit. Just a bit annoying that someone can call them dolls when they don't appreciate all the fine details that went into them!

My wife has never called my 1/6 stuff anything but "barbies." Doesn't detract from my enjoyment of them though, and she can call them whatever the hell she wants as long as she lets me buy them :wink1:

I love the smell of my shampoo and conditioner, even though it's secretly lavender scented. But it's hidden behind the manly labels and phallic bottle shape.

They're dolls. Let's not be discriminatory. They're for women too.

When I try to describe them as 12 inch articulated figures, I get a fairly blank look, so it's easier to say they're like Barbies, only better. I get a similar blank look. I choose to think of it as culture shock.

I once made a comment unrelated to a discussion about some dude being a _____ and that he must have low testosterone. I got called out and one guy said," how can you make a comment about low test when you collect dolls?"

I could not argue with that :)

But to the topic. They're dolls! Question is, are you man enough to accept that, and not have a problem with it?

They are dolls. I don't know why some collectors get so insecure about this. I assume it's because deep down they're a little embarrassed about collecting them.

Same story here. Though when I've had friends/co-workers over, they kinda go bug-eyed at my collection and generally think they're pretty cool.

Yes. Yes. They're toys, dolls, whatever. All I know is I enjoy collecting them and don't care what other people think.
