Similar to ESB Han, they must be waiting Anthony Daniels' approval to his likeness.

I do find it weird that the only OG crew member they haven't released yet is 3PO, even though I hate him as a character and wouldn't buy him it's still strange.

...but SS C3PO still up with discount and free shipping :rotfl

yeah I don't know why more people don't just get the SS version. I think it is totally serviceable.

Full disclosure, he is also not my favourite character by a loooong shot, so the well weathered SS version is fine for me.

I'm not mega OCD, so don't know what Hot Toys could do so much better. Sure Diecast comes to mind, but to me that's just a few metal parts to make it feel more substantial in the hand.

Anyway each to their own.

1. People expect HTs to be better.
2. Hot Toys showed two prototypes.

I know I can just get the SSC C3PO but I know I will want the HTs when it comes out so I'll keep waiting.

I can't figure out the logic behind not yet releasing at least one version of 3PO. They are getting into Clone Troopers, realistic versions of various cartoon characters, more Luke variants than you can count, even two separate R2 figures, but no 3PO. It isn't more complex than other figures they have done. Maybe Howard really dislikes the character. . .kills me, though. This would essentially complete my HT Star Wars collection.

The only explanation I can think of, since they had a prototype, is they decided to scrap it and make it diecast. Which would require a new mold.

On sideshow? Not for me...

I don't see a discount but there is free shipping. Most likely to US customers only.

Edit: Another issue I have with Sideshow 3PO is that it looks like you need to have the eyes lit for it to look good on display. I'm not interested in constantly changing out the batteries to achieve that look. Plus worrying about the electronics failing or batteries corroding. Chances are Hot Toys would go the same route though. It would be nice to have an alternate head with painted eyes.

From the neck down (and not including the hands) the Sideshow version I think is the best/most accurate 3PO ever made in any scale other than 1:1. It's in the face sculpt (which is kinda bad) and hands (which are a disaster in more ways than the thumbs) that the overall figure falters.

But there are some remarkably good aspects - the eyes lit up look stellar and are easily turned on/off (though yes I agree it's an issue that they look dull when not lit up, and the Tama 3PO still looks like 3PO without the eyes switches on,) the elbow pistons are accurately sized but work quite well, and the body has a terrific slender ANH look. While the metal paint finish isn't perfect it's a whole lot better than I expected and matches up to ROTJ very well, and a few scenes from ANH too.
