Obviously someone cared to invest in them. Collectors placed pre-orders. And they must have been relatively strong to give Sideshow the confidence to order so heavily.

What is this thread about again?

It's about the strangely deep love for a trooper that never really did a whole lot of anything in the whole OT yet was immortalized by Kenner and won his way into fan hearts.

People have consistently moved in and out of this thread for nearly five years (pretty much uninterrupted) expressing and confirming that love. And that will hopefully mean he shows up in Mando S3 (just as so many other obscure fan faves have gotten star cameos,) and that will in turn finally generate this figure.:lecture

I've been stunned to see the depth of fan love for this trooper, and that alone says it will get made eventually, prompted by whatever metric HT needs to press the go button.

I love the one to the right. Nice detail with the buckle on the gloves. I have that head too, I want to say its Goring but DiD called him something else.

Yeah the ANH style with the longer tunic, low buckle boots (same as the ROTLA troopers) and buckled gauntlets look cool and the ANH DSTs were so menacing with those great, hard British working class faces in ANH (that's the reason I went with that Goering head - he has kind of this scary smirk.)

Those hard interesting faces you see in the background crew too for ANH - faces that came through the aftermath of WWII (ironic given they fought the Nazis) and the economic struggles of the 50s and 60s.

In ANH DSTs had attitude too - sneering at Leia or Luke/Han in the prison scene, and how they stand there with arms arrogantly crossed. I actually bought a set of the HT Maul "crossed arms" gloved hands to do that. I also love how when they stand like that in ANH you can see their glove interiors are bright red - a cool little detail.

From a visual standpoint I like the ROTJ style best because the belt is the rarest Imperial belt (that has the ATAT driver communicator on the belt, same greeblie on the Ugnaught) and it's a nice blend of TIE/capped trooper jumpsuit but with helmet, but the ANH certainly wins with pure attitude.

I can see it now, The Mandalorian S3 opens with a flashback of Moff Gideon on the Death Star and he strides down the hall flanked by two Death Star Troopers on either side.

Howard Chan tumbles backward in his chair as he reaches for that Trooper prototype ... hoping there's room in the production schedule.

Those look great.

Are those helmets all from the HT Leia/Wicket 2 pack or are the ones to the left modded Hasbro helmets?? You did a nice job on them.

I would tumble back too.

Maybe they'll show in Boba's Book too.

Oh yeah. I?ve been hoping this for a while. I?ve got it in my head for some reason, that the ?Book of Boba Fett? will be a sort of memoir series, detailing Boba?s previous adventures. If that?s what it is, it will be a treasure trove of OT figure possibilities.

It'll be a treasure trove even if it goes forward from the point we left him.

A new underworld crime boss, Scum and villainy, kick ass fight scenes. Bring it on !!!

And all three are HT helmets, just with 3D printed chin cups, a helmet liner and narrow elastic added. I am still considering adding a longer helmet "skirt" (using the hasbro as the template) made of styrene sheet to my ANH figure as one of the DSTs in ANH has the longer skirt on his helmet.

Being hand cut, the prop Helmets do vary in terms of the skirt length and the ones seen in ESB and ROTJ mostly seem to be not quite as elongated.

I recognize the TIE fighter pilot outfit in the middle but can you provide additional info for the outfits on the other two? Is that Praji's on the left and the ebay one on the right?

The ESB is a heavily modded Hasbro DST outfit and the ANH with the longer tunic is HT black pants with a modded HT Dooku tunic.

I have found that getting Imperial outfits to look good is very tough - the tailoring has to be just right. I didn't think the eBay outfit looked quite tight enough.

The Sideshow Imperial outfits like Praji are still decent, but they are older and not quite at the HT tailoring level. I'm about to put my Praji on a new body so will be interesting to tear that figure down.

The ESB DST costume has a shorter tunic than ANH, though the ESB boots are the longer officer style versus ANH shorter jackboot style.

Handle the Praji holster carefully. I picked up that figure at a decent price awhile back and the loops that attach the holster to the belt literally disintegrated in my fingers.

Thanks for the info, TaliBane! Excellent job on those outfits.

I'm tempted to order one of those Ebay sets but unsure how it would look on a figure. Can't find any pics except for the Ebay pics of the outfit itself. None with a figure wearing it.

Bummer. Not usually a fan of those earlier Sideshow holsters - I usually replace them with custom holsters, but the Praji one is a better one. I'll have to check mine.

Thanks, yeah the only problem is last time I checked those Imperial ebay unforms were a little over $40 - not quite what I was willing to pay for something on ebay like that (and the pics weren't good enough to tell.) Give them a shot - maybe they will be close to HT standrad.

You can be surprised sometimes - I bought three Tarkin-looking uniforms on ebay that were listed as generic "officer" uniforms for pretty cheap (around $25 each with belts.) Even though the pics looked good I assumed they were going to be knock-offs but they looked indistinguishable from the HT originals I have. I ordered one to start with, then once I saw what they were quality-wise, bought the other two.

Finally got around to putting together a custom Death Star Trooper since it looks like we'll never get the one Hot Toys previewed years ago.
