Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

I've got to say the world building in this episode and the show in general is amazing. How many different planets have we been to now ?? And not just small sets, that whole scene through the jungle with the village and pirates was amazing to show so much more of the Star Wars worlds.

I guess we need to thank Faverau for pushing the Volume and both Favs and Filoni for having the scope to expand the Star Wars universe with big open shots like that.

On the Disney call they said they were building a bigger volume in the states and more in other locations. UK + Australia. So we can expect exactly the same level of effects and scale in all other Star Wars and Marvel Disney+ productions.

Very exciting times !!

So, conceivably they can be shooting 3-4 Star Wars shows at the same time that way. We?re really not far away from having Star Wars year round. 2021 will probably have the least SW content for the next decade or so. Of course there?ll be those who argue of Star Wars fatigue, but I say **** that there?s no such thing if the quality is always to a high standard. Star Wars fatigue is only a thing when we?re served up with an unimaginative blatant cash-grab like the ST, not when we?re served up with something like Mando on a regular basis.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

Yeah even the concept art during the end credits showed one of those big RO transports sitting on the roof of the installation.

Just went back and had a look, nice spot. I noticed this one was not only directed by Rick Famuyiwa, but also written by him. Clearly he?s a big Rogue One fan. With the work he?s done on The Mandalorian I don?t think he?s far away from getting his own show. The Mandalorian is unearthing some very talented directors.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

It's possible but don't forget he's raised up with a certain belief system. Knowing there are other practices does not make someone leave his life style easily.

Yeah, I think questioning his belief system is part of his arc; suspect Din D'jarin is gonna clash - one way or the other - with the remnants of the Nevarro Mandalorians/Death Watch.

Think the show was seeding that - e.g. Bo-katan saying Mandalorians are stronger together. At least, if I were writing a multi-season show, I'd write in an arc about the re-taking of Mandalore, which would bring Mandalorian clans back together. Who may not be that crazy about each others' beliefs.

Far as I know, taking back Mandalore wouldn't affect the ST, since the ST never mentions Mandalore. Of course, IMO, if Din D'jarin ends up being the one taking the Darksaber, then assume the helmet thing doesn't matter. Sword > helmet/no helmet. They could do a real twist tho and have Din D'jarin use his shiny, shiny Beskar spear, and he ends up breaking the Darksaber.

Then he could give the Darksaber's kyber crystal to Bo-katan and and hitch a ride with Boba back to Sorgon.:drink

Yeah. And IMO more stories are welcome as opposed to having a few things that are rewatchable; then there's all this mildly interesting to bad stuff on HBO, Netflix...at least with SW they can explore new worlds, alien characters.
And will always feel the issue with the ST was not the characters introduced; it was sloppiness in the editing and writing. Not having a vision.

Or like one commenter put it, they didn't trust in the new characters and ended up with a mess that pleased no-one, when they turned around and used older characters as a crutch.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

Gotta say I'm still having trouble adjusting to Fett's new look, I suppose because the original was just so perfect and iconic, but I did like it better in this episode at least. I still think he looks best with the helmet off though, since Morrison's scarred up face has so much character in it.

It did seem a bit jarring but, more jarring to me was how janky it looked when Vanth had it.
In my mind it?s drawing a line under that period and starting anew.
Also,
By the end, the helmet was already showing some scratches.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

Yeah with his streak of no one seeing his face officially over and then hanging out with Bo Katan and Fett himself who keep removing their helmets I'd say it's a safe bet that he won't be so dogmatic about keeping his on all the time for much longer.

I don't know, he still seems incredibly reluctant and only removed it this one time because he had no other choice (and had already compromised himself anyway by taking off his Mando armor). So I still see it as being just a once a season type thing based on some extreme circumstance, and we're never going to see him casually strolling around without a helmet on this show.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

He'll take it off for Bo Katan eventually. ''I'm not going to kiss you in that thing Mando! I'm no Twi'lek!!'' Off it comes quicker than you can say ''This is the way''.

They've got to take their time about it, so (just as you mention) he doesn't change his mind from one minute to the next. It's a gradual process where they're obviously writing lines to play on his thinking. I'd bet at some point, maybe next season he'll see the sect in a broader light and all those little pushes he's had will come together and he'll become a normal Mando where he wears it sometimes, and sometimes not.

I mean at the end of the day if Pedro walked off set, it's about keeping him on as actor. Nothing really about the Mando character as such. That's all just a made up story. :lol

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

Its definitely been a theme of this season that his world view is expanding. We can see it from the very beginning when he allows the pit droids to work on the razor crest. He does this because of his season 1 experiences with IG-11. So I imagine as he gets some more screen time with mandos outside "the way", his view of what it means to be Mandalorian will shift.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

I initially had a weird feeling when the "pirates" attacked Mando's transport and he was wiping them out. These guys were fighting the Empire and thought the same against Mando's transport.

Just seemed weird but I just went with the flow.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

It would be cool if he ditched the helmet altogether from s3 onwards. Pedro has a great face and it's a shame it's stuntmen 99% of the time in the suit.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

So after this episode lots of potential new figures I want. :(

Shore Trooper
Tank Trooper
Boba Fett (freshly painted armor with updated undersuit)

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

Based on what everyone else seems to be saying I think I'm in the minority when I say I liked Boba's look last week more than his repainted version.

Yeah this is something I took away from i toot. In any other episode he may be helping those guys, but here he's slaughtering them.

This is a trend I've seen here, and also kind of in Marvel too. Whenever a hero is wiping people out, chances are they will not look human. Mando has killed humans before, but when he's murdering several dudes at a time it's typically aliens of some kind, just like those guys were despite the little village they drove through being all human. It actually would've made for a better episode (at least a bit more thought provoking) if they drove through that village and it was all those aliens, then he in turn has to kill all the pirates of the same species to finish their mission.

I mention Marvel since the Chitauri from The Avengers and whatever creatures they were wiping out in Infinity War in the Wakanda battle scene were all random, ravenous alien type creatures that brought zero empathy to the viewer. If they battled tons of humans or human like figures, since we know they exist from the tons of aliens we've seen in the GotG movies, it would feel a lot different.

I mean like in Episode 2 of the series where he's battling the Jawas, he disintegrates a bunch of them, and he makes a comment, but the Jawas still deal with him to get that egg. I mean if that was a group of any sentient beings of like a couple dozen, and some dude murdered several of you, chances are you wouldn't be so happy just to get a frigging egg at the end. Maybe it's a statement on Jawas, but I think it's just a statement of the show resorting to aliens for killing fodder.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

For the most part, the Human=Good and Alien=Bad has been a staple throughout all the SW films. It doesn't make any sense in-universe, but audiences are always seemingly fine with weirdo aliens getting axed over humans. I remember watch AOTC back when it was released and noticing how Anakin slices up random Geonosians without a second thought. We don't care because, hey they're just bug things, but in-universe they're civilians in their own homes. (not that Anakin is a good example of any kind of restraint or moral judgement)

Yeah, but he's just trying to stay alive. Get them off the transport or be blown to kingdom come.

No real time to talk and negotiate with those guys on a moving transport either.

They are going to make both looks, it's just too easy.

And it's Fett.

And HT will make a lot of money basically double dipping. Probably the clean one first and the exclusive sarlaac version some time later. I just hope it leads to Cobb Vanth too.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

If they ever introduce the beginnings of the First Order in the Mandalorian series will the current cut price Hot Toys troopers regain their value?

Nope. But it would ruin the show. It's very unlikely to happen anyway because Favreau hates the ST.

I didn't realize you & Favreau were such close friends lol. I seriously doubt that it would ruin the show because JF would probably touch on it in a subtle manner. And if down the road any ST stormtrooper designs were incorporated in cool Mando scenes, the associated figures IMO likely WOULD go up in value. Maybe not up to their original price point, but they'd go up.

Re: Speculation : Hot Toys Disney+ Figures "The Mandalorian" + "Cassian" + "Kenobi"

If I loved Star Wars (in fact I do :)), and hated ST, either I'd have stayed away from ST or filled the holes where I did not like, in order to bring the ST that I disliked closer to my taste. Both are reasonable approaches.

Damn. I loved this sig :D
