Yup, I know they take pride in sculpting everything by hand, but at this point many of their sculpts are really starting to pale in comparison to the 3D modeled ones. The only thing that sets them apart is the ultra realistic detail, but I'd still rather have a stronger underlying likeness. Especially when it comes to someone like Moff Gideon.

Agree. Anyway, as far as I understand the tech, the best 3D modeling/scanning is ALWAYS gonna involve so kind of human finishing for fine details. I'm buying a mass-produced product that is supposed to be a kind of miniaturized match, to-scale, of a given character. I don't look at HT's best sculpts and think "wow, that was hand-sculpted!" Don't think I've ever thought that about a figure.

For a poly statue - well, maybe. Mostly I either am really happy that something has an eerie likeness (like IW Bucky and Hela) and has amazing production paint; or I am unhappy and/or thinking of canceling - which I did for IW Cap and EG Hawkeye.

I never remember thinking "well, I shouldn't cancel, because after all, the original proto was hand sculpted!"

And not sure if I am gonna pick up Gideon. Not blown away by the likeness.

Still too early to tell on Obi-Wan and Cassian Andor series, so instead my overall 2021/2022 SW list would be (in order for each series):

Yeah you're right. I also never consider these "hand modelled" from clay or whatever they use. At least in my buying decision.

They may as well use 3D modelling. I mean replacing designers over time as they leave the company etc will become increasingly harder if they stick with hand modelled sculptors. 99% of young sculptors would be 3D software sculptors I'd say.

The additional step to simply get the scanned head image from Disney and improve the miniature features on it is also possible I guess. Then again Disney probably charges too much for the use of their 3D scan, so it would mean higher prices for us. Which sucks.

But the technology is definitely there. Check out the first minute of this video which he did with an iPhone. I mean if HT is paying Disney for the rights to use some actors image, surely getting a scan of their face would be something Disney would do to enable more sales ??

Anyway, who knows what the details are with Disney ?? Either way it would always come back to money.

Well, I think it was Pascal - or Favreau - something in an interview (a while ago) about the helmet is never gonna be gone...I can't find the source now. E.g. we may or may not see more of Pascal's face but no worries for helmet lovers.

That said, unless HT can get it together - and they have, in the past of course - getting a Pascal or Boba sculpt could be one of those "stays in the box" things.

IMO Cara is needed ASAP. She's a main show character. If I get Beskar, IG, and Cara I could live with no-one else, if I had to. Since they never did Kuiil

Pretty sure Gina Carano's anti-mask beliefs is playing a big part in why her character hasn't been made yet. Hot Toys biggest money makers all wear masks after all.

Cara Dune should be added to that list. She must have been involved in more storyline than most of those other characters.

If they do give us a Mando Luke I hope the base includes a destroyed dark Trooper.

No idea, Mandalorian related characters (armor + helmet) will be pumped out asap because they're the hottest merchandises right now. As for Cara, I share the same sentiment with majority of collectors in here have pointed out that "robust" female body of her is quite a challenging task for HT's R&D to mass produce. I would even say Koska Reeves will even being made before her....and hey you know but its just the personal preference, who knows a Hot Toys Cara Dune could inextricably show up out of nowhere .

They'll just throw a fat suit on the one female body they've got and simply add new arms when they make her. they can't even be bothered to make a new body for Captain America, a character they could totally make multiple versions of to recoup costs, so I highly doubt Cara Dune will get a special body made when we've seen her in a grand total of one unique outfit.

Although I guess it could be argued they are not hard tooled plastic bodies as such. Perhaps normal bodies over moulded with soft silicone type stuff ??

The way this season was rocking and rolling with all the huge character reveals, I'm fine with the 8 episodes lol, it was pretty much non-stop great.

Dunno why an Asian toymaker would care - I mean they sell globally and that's a U.S. politic thing . I think it's more pedestrian - they can't slap on a helmet. No running away from THAT sculpt not to mention needing a new body.

Her price is probably gonna be scary.

To me what really sucked is having it sink in - 2022 release; and with possible delays even into 2022 - tho it's nothing *nefarious*.

One article (that I am too lazy to go find) explained Temura Morrison is having to hop around the world to deal with separate projects, so they hafta work with his schedule. Does kinda feel like Mandalorian was here and gone tho. Maybe Favreau will show some pity later and release some sneak photos. Bet they do for the Boba show, anyway.

Still - I have the Beskar Mando and the HASBRO Mando bucket and Razor Crest to look forward to. Looking forward to the Crest - never owned anything like that before.
