Even then I’m not paying 280 for a Sideshow Gamorrean Guard.

Sure, but lots of people would. $280 on a sideshow figure of something different for your Star Wars collection is a lot more palatable than the alternative.

Exactly, there’s enough evidence out there to show these figures sell, and at high prices. Not every collector is the same, original trilogy background characters will always sell, regardless of whether they’re Sideshow, Hot Toys or even InArt quality. Not that there’s much wrong with the quality of those older Sideshow aliens. Like I said a few minor updates and improvements here and there and count me in. Nostalgia plays a massive part for many people. Crikey just look at the old Kenner figures, it’s not like they look great or anything, but it’s special to have a representation of those characters from your childhood in your collection. I’d rather pay near $300 for a Gamorrean Guard than some Disney+ background trooper who has 3 seconds of screen time.

Their Jabba is fantastic, their Skiff Lando (helmet on) is also pretty damn good. I’ve also owned their TIE Pilot and R5. Their Hoth Han and Luke are also excellent, only let down by the headsculpts (a common problem with SS and humans). Yes, they’re very hit and miss, but I think a lot of people would tell you some of those old aliens and bounty hunters are very decent. Of course the issue would be updating them, which if their Grievous is anything to go by means they probably wouldn’t.
Agree with all this and while head sculpts are very important, having Hoth Luke and Han in their winter gear on top of the tauntauns is a great display and their likenesses are passable through the goggles and the parkas :)

The lack of variety from Hot Toys, even within the few IPs they love to cover, creates that atmosphere.

If anybody thought there was a snowballs chance in hell that Hot Toys would make ESB bounty hunters or the like people would happily hold out for them.

Meanwhile, we can't even get ******* Han Solo :lol

Han? Is he even a big deal? C’mon, we got Axe Woves!

(They all have a better chance now than a Cara Dune figure. We’ll get a Watto and Jar-Jar before they let her show up.)

Wasn't he some lame, straight, white, male, boomer character from the 70s, who once had Rey's ship?
And didn't he stupidly show up to just got in the way, uselessly committing suicide with Kylo's saber. I don't even get the fascination with this character?
:lol

To be fair I like axe woves too! I understand there should be something of a hierarchy to the characters though
Really torn on whether to pull the trigger on Axe. On one hand he's going very cheap, especially if you buy him from that dreaded Hong Kong store. On the other hand he plays a bigger part in season 3 (according to Katee Sackhoff, plus there are pics of him on set filming) so there's always a chance we get a headsculpt version down the line. Then again when he shows up in season 3 people will be jumping on that cheap Axe Woves figure, and we might not get another version. First world problems.

Unless he gets a ton of screen time I'm guessing Hot Toys won't do a v2. As it is they basically made him because they're like "We got the parts *shrug*" :lol

I'm still hoping we'll get a secret appearance from Cara Dune in S3, but I realise the chances are pretty much 0%.

There’s no arguing they would sell. And I agree there is definitely a demand. I also want Star Wars aliens and background characters.

It’s just that I don’t know if they would sell in the numbers needed to justify producing them in the quantities required to get them to a price point where enough people would buy them to make it all worthwhile from a business perspective.

The fewer they make, the more expensive it would have to be, and then the fewer that would sell. It’s a delicate balancing act with a lot of costs, fees, and overhead to consider. Sideshow is a business first. Now more than ever, they’re not making products because it’s what they’re passionate about; it’s what they think will sell.

So it’s unfortunately not as simple as make collectible then profit. Otherwise so many collectibles companies wouldn’t go under.

As much as I prefer licensed in general, it would be good if there was an alternative like an MYC or DMD for 1/6 figures. But it’s a difficult venture to get into.

I love the Gamoreans as much as the next guy, but no way I'd pay that much for one, not even $280! Not when other figures look like this...

Yeah yeah, not a fair comparison, SS vs HT, older figure etc. Still, I couldn't bring myself to have THAT in my collection next to all the other great looking figures.

Some of those Bounty Hunters and newer figures were something like 2000 units or something pretty low. So it is feasible. It's unfortunately also why they're extremely tough to find now second hand and very expensive if you do.

No one is arguing SS is going to match HT quality, the draw is they would be making something that HT would never touch in a million years. As the secondary pricing shows for a lot of those later run figures, there's plenty of people out there for whom that is enough.

On a more personal note, for me they'd be well worth it simply because I don't mind painting and weathering etc so a solid base to start with is a win in my book.

I suppose it's moot point anyways since Sideshow would much rather rake in profits of distribution.

I just don’t believe we should be rewarding Sideshow with our hard earned money by purchasing their subpar products. We all deserve better.
