This OT alien talk got me looking around for the Gentle Giant Max Rebo band, before realising it’s out of scale with the 1:6 figures. However, I found this amazing video. If only I had that level of painting ability.

Some of those Bounty Hunters and newer figures were something like 2000 units or something pretty low. So it is feasible. It's unfortunately also why they're extremely tough to find now second hand and very expensive if you do..

I picked up all their bounty hunters as they came out and they’re great figures.

But a lot has changed since then, including Sideshow. Plus these were over $200 5+ years ago - Dengar was already $240 in 2016 - so anything they’d release today would cost a lot more. And some of them didn’t necessarily fly off the shelves.

This talk started with the suggestion that Sideshow reissue some of their older figures. Figures like the Gamorrean Guard are over a decade old. And almost every reissue they’ve done was a downgrade. I prefer V2 Bossk for the sculpt but the outfit is noticeably worse quality. And the V2 IG-11 was awful.

All some of us are saying is that we should want better than to see Sideshow try to hock a 10+ year old figure that might be lower quality than the original for near $300 out the door at least in the year 2023.

I just don’t believe we should be rewarding Sideshow with our hard earned money by purchasing their subpar products. We all deserve better.

We do. As I said Hot Toys current choices on who to make fosters the atmosphere where some options are better than none. If that wasn't the case then secondary market would still be reasonable on a lot of those old releases.

Hell when I went to go look at finished auctions the prices were MUCH WORSE than I was expecting. Last I checked some of those Bounty Hunters and gammy were in the like $300 range, which is probably still too much, but sheesh...$600-$800 is insane.

Great example actually. You got a lot of people still picking up the begins because it's the only game in town. Not to mention the brave ones out their modding it to be more accurate. I'm sure we'll get some customizers stepping up with more accurate cowls and what not same way they do capes. I'm not under the impression that gammy would get the same treatment in terms of customs stuff, but there's still a market out there.

Ideally? Absolutely! But its sort of a "wish in one hand" type situation. :lol

And the bounty hunters look great! I would love to own them, but again so would everyone else. Even at these astronomical prices. These are as or more expensive than some of the long sold out Hot Toys star wars releases out there.

I digress, but last word on it from me will just be that the "only game in town" factor is real and while I would LOVE hot toys or hell even a competent 3rd party to take a crack at some stuff that other guys won't make I just don't see it happening.

Even stuff like the recent Dirty Harry figure demonstrates that collectors draw the line differently in terms of quality with subjects that are more varied. It released a couple months ago, sold out, and immediately the prices are going like this:

Because where else are you going to get that figure now? I agree 100% that we should want for better. It sucks, but its unfortunately the best we got.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. How about them Andor figures?!

And those are just what they're going for in the US, I imagine they're going even higher in Europe and elsewhere in the world.

At this point, I’d rather have overpriced lackluster figures than nothing. I would take old sideshow reissues at inflated prices because hot toys will never do some of those figures and I skipped some of them like a fool. Hot toys is a Disney plus promotion machine and anniversaries at this point. They aren’t going to make greedo, the cantina band, hammerhead, snow trooper commander, and so on. Not when they can repaint iron man and boba.
If sideshow was smart, they would pounce and put out a few old figures. See how they sell if they keep them under $250ish.

The old Sideshow figures are pretty good in my opinion. With some work, they can look fantastic.

You always manage to bring out the best in these figures. Didn’t you say you re-painted the Gamorreans and Bib?

Dengar and Bossk look like superb figures, I can’t see what massive improvements Hot Toys could make on those.

Do you have the Modal Nodes? If so how do you find they hold up and have you had to make any alterations? I’m seriously considering tracking them down at some point this year. Not as easy as you’d think, at a semi-reasonable price, here in the UK. I had all five of them lined up in an eBay deal last year for £550 and I stupidly changed my mind at the last second.

Sorry for all the questions!

Yes. I did a total repaint of Bib Fortuna and the Gamorrean Guards.

I do have the Modal Nodes. They are pretty good outfits, sculpts and accessories, but the bodies kinda suck. I may swap them out eventually. They are good enough for what I need them to do though.

And therein lies the problem, Sideshow will never learn because people keep buying it anyway :dunno
I would love for Sideshow to learn that I'd much rather buy an 85% accurate Gamorrean Guard, than a perfect replica of any human character in cinema history 😎

Did anyone buy their clone wars figures. I doubt it. Plus at 50% discount from TW it reinforces that thought.

Yep. A lot changes over time. Chinese wages increases and figure technology gets better.

But the one constant is Sideshow's greed no matter what the cost.

Damn, they look so great lined up together like that, definitely, along with the Tauntaun, a holy grail for me. Thank you for the answers.
