I put up a side by side a couple days ago. It's definitely and obviously a different outfit than the one in the prototype pics, and the head does not look exactly the same.

One thing with this pic is I actually like the clothing on the "new" pic over the prototype. It looks more movie accurate.

Fact is, if this Luke was great and HT was proud, we would be seeing pics on their own site every frickin' day.

We're not, so what does that tell ya?

Maybe HT is just putting more muscle behind Avengers and Batman, since they're both still buzzing. SW has been around forever, HT probably feels they can get to it when they get to it.

I think im going to believe the side by side comparison Mr.Tanker put up ,is the correct way to go and that the left one is the production.(sounds viable anyways)

Star Wars is a 35 year old license.

Batman and Avengers are two of the highest grossing franchises in the past decade.

I would fully imagine that Luke, and the SW licence in general, got pushed to the side over the summer to make room for TDKR and Avengers. I would also imagine that Hot Toys, on average, took more preorders of any character for either of those licenses than they did for Luke.

Batman and Avengers are where the money is, and so that is where Hot Toys is putting their focus.

^ This. Hot Toys has always proudly teased their upcoming figures on their Facebook page but their FIRST Star Wars release is flying in under the radar and oddly silent. If this figure was everything Howard Chan was saying it was going to be they would be showing it off proudly. They're not. That says everything.

I've owned a lot of Hot Toys figures in my day, and have gone through the process of seeing prototype translate into production many times. The differences between the two are, in general, extremely minor. This isn't Sideshow, where you've got a near 50/50 chance of getting a cross-eyed, sloppily painted mess. Might we see a slightly different material used for the jacket, or a slightly less detailed sculpt? Maybe. But it would defy past behavior by HT to give us something that wasn't very very close to the prototype.

So in your opinion those pics(bad pics) are of "custom samples"?

Official release date is the 18th overseas, 1 day earlier here according to SS. So i do wonder if there is indeed a deal that SS gets to unveil it first. I mean no pics c'mon?

At this point in the game i am not even expecting any pics till mid next week earliest. (hope im wrong) I wonder if HT would tell us if that pic is actually the final figure on their page from a few weeks ago! (starting to believe it is)

i asked them on facebook if they could take some pics of HT luke for us to ally our fears.
the reply i got basically that cause there was none in the vicinity,they couldn't.
Inhand pics will come from you Yankees that get it next week...and it will be probably the thurs/friday by the time we see pics

It should be fine because it would be highly unlikely of HT to put out an inferior product for the first figure of its line this late in the game.

Before some of you bring up the dreaded Indy all the trolls like to drag up lets just say if that happens here there preorder/initial sales for future SW figures will be about 1/4 of what they are now. That is if the line doesn't get yanked out of their hands before they can even make their next SW figure.

But in the end I trust HT and my Luke should be awesome.....whenever he gets here
