Hot Toys may do a Vader, but don't expect one in the next 6 or more years. Maybe 7 to 10. Let's say 2020 at the earliest. Put it this way, there's a much better chance of Sideshow doing another two Vaders than Hot Toys ever doing one. And if they ever do, ppl who have the SSC Vader may choose to sell it, pocketing a good amount of coin and using a fraction of if to buy the new Vader. These things don't go down in value like MacFarlane toys.
If their production Vader looks as bad as the prototype, I'm quite confident it won't rise in price. There probably won't even be a secondary market, as they'll make 20,000 Vaders like they seem to be doing w/Boba Fett. Beyond that, I don't relate to the argument that since SSC's will be the only game in town, one should settle just to have Vader represented, even if compared to the Hot Toys price point it's sub-par. I'll do without and put the $250.00 towards an amazing release like BD Terminator or ED-209/RoboCop, even though I'd love a good version of Vader.

I don't understand this "waiting game" train of thought. There's no such thing as the be-all, end-all of anything. Hot Toys has yet to make any product that's the be-all end-all of its license. Everything they've done can be improved upon. A new anything down the pipe doesn't make something now any less valuable or desirable. Have you heard of that idiom, one in the hand is worth two in the bush?

Did the price of the first Tumbler drop even $1 after the re-release? Only the insane scalper prices. But look at them again now. How about previous HT Batman releases each time a new version came out? Try to buy an original Robocop release right now, even after the new announcement. Try to buy a Medicom Vader. I could go on.

If the announced SSC Vader looks decent, grab one while you can and enjoy it while you have it. If another Vader ever comes out, buy it too if you think it's better. Sell the previous one. It doesn't matter if that happens 2 years from now or 20.

Personally, I don't think Hot Toys will release another Star Wars character at all in the next year and that they might, only just might, show a proto of something to come out in 2014 or 2015.

Calling the SSC Vader "sub-par" kind of shows a lack of understanding of the term "par," sorry. I'm fairly confident the figure is going to turn out very well, even if I also think it should have been priced at $199 and come without as much extraneous bobbles.

Because for some people money doesn't grow on trees? :huh

That's not an argument, because if the figure were Hot Toys, a lack of money is still a lack of money. You either have the disposable income or you don't, it's not a reason to argue for one producer versus another, especially when there's no sign on the horizon that a product will ever be produced by HT.

There's enough historical precedent with other products from all the high end manufacturers to show it's quite possible to unload a figure at cost or at profit.

The bottom line however is buy it if you like it. Skip it if you don't, but don't think for a second that anything will come in its place from Hot Toys.

It's partly about the price/affordability (in relation to what the same amount of money will buy elsewhere) but the main sticking point to me is that the prototype is underwhelming. It doesn't look like a $250.00 release, at all. I mean, compare it with HT Loki ($30.00 less) or RoboCop w/o chair (only slightly more expensive here at $288.00) and I don't know how anyone could argue it's in the same league.

It's really quite simple actually. At these prices I'm not going to spend that kind of money on something that requires additional cost to upgrade to fix and look right when there is no excuse why they can't give us that kind of accuracy/quality for that price. So you could say that I am voting with my wallet. I'll wait for something better to come along because something ALWAYS does.

You won't get an argument from me about the price, I've already said numerous times I feel it should have been a $200 figure. Among other things, who knows how the licensing folds out on this one.

I read everything you type in the voice of Sterling Archer.

I really love this figure. I opted to display the battle damaged costume and head but I put the "clean" hair on it. Something about the slightly open mouth on the BD head seems to remind me more of Hamill's expression in the movie.

Tried to copy the pose from one of the 1980 Kenner ESB Luke Bespin cards.

That's the mentality alot of folks around here have.

Well done. Simple pose but looks brilliant. :hi5:

Pretty sure no one is currently selling ready-made cold-cathode sabers. Someone might make one on commission, but you'd probably have to ask around, possibly check the DIY thread.

These instructions are pretty clear-cut. Basic soldering skills required.

I'm sure I'll get around to this myself in the fall - at the moment I have few Hasbro saber hilts I can use, but I might search out casts of the HT or Sideshow versions.

...and that comes pretty close to nailing it! Looks great...nice shot!

I am looking for just the clean head of this for a Jedi Luke bash so if anyone has one for sale, please PM me.

Thanks!

Cool, thanks PP.....I just ordered two from ebay. SWEEET!

No problem Solo.

I'll just leave this out there: If anyone has a Hot Toys lightsaber they'd like to part out, please let me know. There are a few on eBay, but the prices are a little too spicy.

I bought mine from Kash...I was thinking about keeping it in the box as a collectible, but the box was damaged on the outside...so.......might as well make a display.
