You know I was thinking this might be like Hot Toy's version of The Producers.

Make a figure so terrible everyone cancels, no need to fill the orders, collect millions in non refundable deposits.

Brilliant show Arnie Kim. You sly dog you. :clap

Hah! Good call

Not to worry. I a few weeks, hopefully there will be plenty to talk about one way or the other. It will either have a brilliant head sculpt and will be one of Hot Toys best figures, or it will have not changed and it will be so so.

I'm very interested in the PR side of this. How Hot Toys are actually dealing with their customers reactions. One way or another a lot of us will have this inhand pretty soon, and then we will know. Has there been a deliberate embargo on images because they arent changing anything and indeed want to rush it out to minimise cancellations or are they just not ready to show the new sculpt yet.
These must be manufactured already ( or in the process of ).

If it is the former (old sculpt) it will be the shadyest thing I have personally seen them do. Next to the leaking DX02 yet another PR disaster.

If it is the latter and we get an improved set everyone will be ecstatic.
IMO.

Yup!! With 500 pages already on this thread debating the issue and countless posts on their facebook page if they let this slide and did not do any updates it would look pretty bad.

Then again who knows what they are dealing with in terms of approvals I think a character/property like this comes with a lot of red tape.

I do think it's a little shady they did not show an update pic... I think that they did actually for Blade come to think of it.

But didn't Arnie Kim himself say he redid or reworked the head??

If there are no in hand pics it is because no-one has it in hand.
Hot Toys don't usually do an all new photoshoot with the production piece, why is it shady because they haven't done one in this case either?

Incorrect, they do actually post updates on their FB and offcial sites. With Blade they actually showed side by side comparison pics with an announcement of a reworked sculpt.

They showed Tony Stark from Mark 4 on the HP right before the figure came out.

They've done this with many other items as well. The shots are always of the production piece. Usually though this is a month or so prior to shipping.

Because it's out in the US in a few weeks and no one has seen it?
That sets a new precident as far as I'm aware?

Then ask yourself why they have dealt with this release like this?

That's the real question... it's not like this is Tron figure or somethign that no one cares about, aside from the Batman or Chris Reeve related stuff this is one of their biggest deal licenses.

When and where the figure is released first, is beside the point.
We don't know the specifics of the agreement with Sideshow, who might have insisted on first release. I don't know, I'm just spitballing. I don't think there is anything sinister about it though.

Where the figure is released first IS relevant. Thats what we are discussing? Why is this release being handled so unusually. Hot Toys Have never traditionally been US first releases. We dont know whats going in for a change! That's the point, we don't know yet. As Ray quite rightly points out this is a major license, who knows what hoops they have had to jump through. But if this figure is released without change HT had better be prepared for some serious flack.

The tide of favor is fickle and turns quickly with collectors. Just look at any of the leaking Hot Toys threads.

Oh absolutely, I agree on all points.

I actually think we will get what has been seen in the photos. Any improvements will be a very welcome surprise.

This thread will take a turn for the interesting after the first in hand pics either way, I can only imagine the unbridalled joy or venomous spite that will be unleashed. Looking forward to it.
