Ordered the deluxe because the regular was waitlisted. In retrospect- is 60 bucks really worth the head and base?

As a first-time Star Wars/Luke figure purchaser, I can’t believe I passed up the helmet hair Mando Luke thinking the hair coming with this fig would be astronomically better. In fact, how dare I think that production hair be anything like what’s ever shown on HT proto pics. Cancelled…

My face when I just realized that the hair sculpt was changed.

DX7 was an amazing time to be a Collector.
Suffering through all HT Marvel until finally HT reveal Bespin Luke.
Weather Vane and Vader head,2 figures, accessories to the wazoo.

Not to nitpick, but the "HT Marvel" era wasn't really a thing back then. Not like it is now. They were actually doing unique things back then. It was a more even mix, that was back when they were still doing the 89 Batman stuff, Platoon, Sweeney Todd, Sucker Punch, Inglorious Basterds, that timeframe was when they did nearly the whole T2 cast.

I wouldn't say we were suffering through HT Marvel, I remember it being pretty exciting and unprecedented that they did the whole Avengers cast. They were notorious for only doing one or two figures from a big cast. I mean, that was the time when they only did two of the three characters from Platoon. "Where's Elias?" was a pretty big meme at the time. Comedian and Silk Spectre, with no Rorshach.

Hell, here I am scrolling through the Hot Toys Complete Checklist, strolling down memory lane. Little did we know how good we had it back then. You had DX07, then the double-whammy of 89 Batman and Joker, you've got the DX T2s, but yeah, after that you really start to see that it's all Marvel all the time, with a few Batmans thrown in to keep you guessing. There was just so much more random stuff back then.

Man... the complete lack of weathering on that outfit is such a bummer. The tailoring may be an upgrade on DX07- but if the look is all wrong, then that becomes a moot point. Crazy that the DX07 still looks to be the superior Luke Bespin over a decade later.

Unless you are going for Muppet Show Luke. Then this one is perfect.

This.

This is true Star Wars for me.

I’ve literally not been able to think of anything else when I look at this figure ever since they originally announced him lol.

I dunno. I heard that all the recent Lukes have hit big discounts in HK (this will be #3 on the shelves there not even counting the various standard, deluxe, etc. versions) so I’m just going to wait and see if this ends up discounted here in the states. But I’m looking at my DX07 right now and don’t see a big improvement here outside of the sculpt, in fact I definitely prefer the thinner and baggier fitting clothes material on my DX07.

Looks a ton better in that review. Still not happy about the super clean outfit or the tailoring or the downgrade of the sweaty hair, but this seems like an 8. I’ll probably grab it, but I definitely don’t see this as an upgrade.

I think I might like the OG tailoring better, with the new sculpt. Combining the two would probably look dope, although still far from perfect. Either way this has been my most anticipated figure for awhile since it’s my favorite rendition of Luke.
