Re: Hot Toys G.I. Joe Retaliation: Snake Eyes Collectible Figure - Full Specs & Pics
I just rented this movie last night.
Well, it was better than ROC by a LONG SHOT.
However, it was disjointed as hell. Almost played like a 90 minute trailer the way the characters would move from scene to scene with no transitions or establishing setup/geography. I also think there was a clear disconnect in style and quality between 1st and 2nd unit direction which I don't know that I've ever noticed so dramatically before.
I kind of liked the scenes in Colton's house. Everyone hanging out in the kitchen was low budget as hell but kind of felt like GI Joe meets Pulp Fiction.
I thought SE made a fair showing (loved how he defaulted to his submachine gun in his first duel with SS.) Where was Timber??? All those snowy mountain shots. I thought it was confirmed we'd see the wolf? Guess not.
The Tatum/Roadblock scenes were surprisingly entertaining. I just wish Tatum was some other random Joe (if he HAD to be in the movie) and not Duke.
Storm Shadow was less annoying though the whole resolution of the Hard Master thing just didn't have any punch.
Jonathan Pryce as the impostor president stole the show. He was a kick.
The HISS Tank battle with Roadblock felt straight out of some SyFy TV movie. So low budget. His final battle with Firefly felt like something from that old "Pacific Blue" USA series.
The destruction of London felt like stock footage from a "real" movie. It looked good but so out of place in this one.
Red ninja battle was sweet and might make the Blu-ray a purchase if I find it for less than 10 bucks. Jinx looked great, even in her ninja gear.
Pretty pointless for anyone who isn't a fan but at least I'd say it was pretty inoffensive overall and had enough entertaining banter throughout (especially when Willis appeared) and cool "fan" moments that I was reasonably entertained. I'd say it was about on par with the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie. Not "good" but probably the best we're ever gonna get.
