This would have been a perfect way to do it. Should have brought Wong he had practice :lol

What's crazy is it was my wife who pointed this out to me. No she doesn't read comics or watch anywhere near as many movies as I do. Yet, after seeing the film once before her and being on forums for a couple of days, she was the first person to point this out to me.

Yeah, I discussed this with a friend after the movie. My No-Prize rationale for why they couldn't do this is that Ebony Maw was more than a match for Dr. Strange magically and he was subservient to Thanos, so I assume Thanos' power exceeds his, therefore if Strange tried to use a portal to chop Thanos' arm off it wouldn't be able to penetrate his skin because he's too tough.

Also, there's the fact that even with though at various points he was attacked by a fully enraged hulk plus Dr. Strange using every magical attack he could muster, the only thing a regular mortal did that even made a dent in him was Iron man's ridiculously advanced nanotechnology suit, and that only drew ONE drop of blood. New and improved Thor and his hyper-power axe did a lot of damage, but that didn't even do anything permanent, so I figured a portal wouldn't do anything but bounce off his skin.

Plus the whole encounter was based on Strange looking into the future to find the one course of action that could end with them victorious, so maybe he saw himself trying the old arm-chop-portal move and it failing.

Or maybe I am WAAAAY overthinking this... :panic:

I like this explanation. I actually like it a lot. It would explain why this theory wasn't even attempted in the first place.

Wouldn't that require Thanos to stick his arm into the portal like Black Dwarf did?

Yeah, the comic gets the general idea right but it wouldn't work exactly like that. Spidey and Iron Man would have had to appear through the portal to grab his arm and then proceeded to pull it back through. Once through Strange would close the portal.

I like that explanation as well.

More irritating than anything to me was that Star-Lord ****** it up for everyone by flying off the handle. They almost had the glove off. Strange should have seen that in one of his future visions and teleported him away.

If you watch it again, Spidey did actually got it off, but Thanos grabbed the bottom part of it and that made Spidey to fly backwards in momentum

I don't normally put down an NRD for something so far out, but I simply wanted to feel secure I was getting this guy. His impact on film is enormous and truly memorable. Ordered.

I would definitely put him in the conversation for best marvel antagonist along with Red Skull, Winter Soldier, and Loki. I would have a hard time ranking the four of them.

I agree that Thanos is excellent, maybe even the best MCU villain so far. I don't think Red Skull was done all that well though. Pretty one note villain. They really should have made better use of Hugo Weaving's talent.

Agreed that Red Skull is the most wasted villain; Weaving played him the best he could, but the material just didn't offer him much to do. Even with the weakness of the villain, Weaving still did an amazing job and he was great in every scene.

After procrastinating, went ahead and pre-ordered at SS. I'm worried its going to sell out very soon; happy to get my order in for this amazing figure.

The Red Skull is so far down as compared to the others IMO. Like others said he wasn't given anything; I was surprised they got rid of him so fast. Expected Cap's classic villain to be the villain in more than 1 movie.

Avengers 3 Spoilers:
So, about RedSkull: he was guarding the soul stone. So they may or may not be done with the character.
About the Dr. Strange portal arm chop theory: After seeing the one way out of fourteen million, that they come out on top, Dr. Strange willingly handed Thanos the time stone. I believe he knows there was no stopping Thanos from obtaining all the stones in every possible scenario. He even told Tony, right before fading into ash, “It was the only way.” My theory is Dr. Strange understood that even in the one instance they come out on top, Thanos would still do the finger snap.

Red Skull ran away from nearly every confrontation with Cap.

At one point Cap even asks "Why are you running?"

Perhaps I need to watch The First Avenger again:lol. It's been a long time. I love the Hot Toys release of Red Skull though. Came with nearly enough stuff to build two pretty excellent figures.
