I like it better without the pony tail. Adam layered the hair to make it look just as long as it was, only slicked back. It's a more accurate sculpt, believe me.

Here's more pictures of HT sculpt. It's not a bad sculpt by any means. It's really good. But Adam's is better. Once I get it set up, I'll post pictures of it for you guys to see.

And Adams:

The only significant difference I see between the HT and Adam's head is the expression. Hot Toys' reminds me of the moment after he realizes they missed the mayor with their shots, where Adam's is a more general, while standing in disguise look.

Exactly. Both are equally accurate to the likeness of the actor - but the HT sculpt takes its expression from a scene in the film, while the custom sculpt is taking its expression from the on-set production photos.

Sorry guys, just because it's a custom, doesn't mean it's more accurate. In fact, if you want movie accuracy, the HT one edges the other out, simply because its expression is actually from the movie.

Adam's is a better likeness to Heath. Kinda having trouble understanding how that can even be debated.

That said, I love my HT Cop and feel no need to have it replaced.

I think that custom does have a better Ledger likeness, but somehow, the HT version looks like him from that scene. Don't know if it is the lighting, or camera angle, or expression, or what.

The HT head does capture the feel of the scene well. The only complaint I have about it is that he doesn't look sickly enough. The skin tones are too warm. Adam really captured that well. He even got the dark circles perfectly.

Maybe you're all getting hung up on the expression.

The HT sculpt looks like the cop Joker in "The Dark Knight" (as portrayed by Heath Ledger)

The custom sculpt looks like Heath Ledger with his makeup on as the cop Joker in "The Dark Knight."

Do you see what I'm saying? One is the character (with the expression), one is the actor (with all the same makeup, but not the expression or attitude of the character). Naturally, the latter "looks" more like the actor, because the actor isn't trying to be someone else. But as far as the physical sculpt goes, both have just as much "likeness" in their shape to the shape of the actor/character.

No.

Adam's looks more like the actor because the dimensions of the facial features are closer to Heaths.

Agreed. It's night and day. Looking at the HT one I always think, "Meh, guess it looks ok." Looking at Adam's I think, "That's Heath." Particularly when they're compared side by side, it's night and day. If he sold this head I'd definitely be interested.

lol, I thought I was in the Twilight Zone for a minute there. I honestly don't know how anyone could think the likeness is at all comparable between the HT sculpt and Adam's. There's a huge difference.

I think Adams looks better, but not enough to swap out on a who cares Cop Joker figure.

Well I care. I loved the cop scene, even though it lasted only a few seconds, I still thought the Joker looked really frightening, with the full brunt of his brutal personality being conveyed. He looks really scary without the make-up. It shows it isn't just a mask he wears, he's really this incredibly intimidating, scary person.

I always find it funny how people compare customs to production. Of course the custom is going to look better ITS A CUSTOM. I bet if Adam had to make 5000 of those heads they sure wouldn't look as good.

Well making 5000 of them would have an impact on the paint details sure. Won't effect the sculpt one bit, and the sculpt is better by a long shot. Sure there is a school of thought that Yulli could do much better if she was nit contrained by deadlines and potential other peoples input to tweak the sculpt etc, so I guess well never know how good she really is.

All I know is Adam makes the best Ledger likeness I have ever come across in any scale

Yeah, that is true about the sculpt not changing but even custom painted "original" joker sculpts can make him look much better. I just don't see the point in arguing about which one is better... everyone has different eyes.

Happy debates are fine but too often it goes a little too far and then just looks dumb. And by the way the Adam one does look better. :)

Don't you have to create new molds for sculpts? Like the sculpts at the end of a molds life tend to look considerable lesser than those at the beginning? Maybe I'm wrong here..

Yeah, I can see it now...it does look much more like him. but I feel like it's only an issue when they are side by side in comparison.

I think the cop joker was a really really nice addition to the dx and I love that scene also. I guess I haven't really felt the gravity of the joker craze everyone talks about in the DC section until this discussion. I couldn't help it...but my initial thought was "what's the point." I've never really had anything to say negative about custom works...cause I think it's all great and I understand the passion of wanting your favorite character to look great up on the shelf. In this case I just never imagined improving on that sculpt. haha
