I parted mine out, the shelf looks empty without Cap lol... I hope mine ships Friday.

You know, I did have that strange feeling also seeing that empty spot on my shelf without AOU cap.
I think its one thing when you sell something that you're set on letting go.
But when you're selling something that you really really like, it was strange to see that empty space on the shelf.

I don't blame you. In the end though, I think you made the right choice.

Thanks, I really hope so.

I thought about asking this in an older Cap thread but my guess I have a better chance of a response here.

Has anyone had the paint on one of their older plastic Cap shields start to wear off? I just got a used Avengers Cap on eBay and the shield looks awful. It's chipping in places and where it's not shipping the paint looks like its fading and has spiderweb like fractures through it.

Is there anyway to repair this? A metallic paint that would work? The only other shield I have is the AoU magnetic one so I can't use that with the Avengers Cap.

You're best bet is to just get a generic diecast captain America shield on eBay.
I hear the quality is good.

The early hot toys captain America shields were plastic and electroplated. Unless you coated them with some sort of varnish, they all will start to chip like what you described.

Thanks for the response. I was worried about that. Are the figure's arm joints strong enough to hold up a metal shield?

You're welcome.
Yup, was able to do lots of dynamic poses with my AOU cap with diecast shield.
My golden age cap also has a diecast shield.

I'm selling one of the knockoff metal shields, hint hint.

It's apparently a common issue but does not always happen. I wonder if the seller disclosed the. Condition that the shield was in..? If not you should be able to use a partial refund the fund a replacement shield...

The clean shield (the one I have him wielding) on my A1 Cap is flaking a bit in the center, but not enough to be an eyesore. The shield for my TFA Cap is flaking also, so he's wielding the BD A1 shield. The BD shield looks better for TFA Cap anyway.

I purchased a custom die cast BD A1 shield off of eBay awhile ago, but the metal used was way too heavy. I'm not sure how other bootleg shields compare.

As far as HT Cap shields go, I personally think the best one is the die cast GA Cap shield. It's essentially a clean shield with just the right amount of weathering to where it doesn't necessarily look BD. Unfortunately, it's from an EX figure so I'm sure it's scarce and also high in price.

my first avenger i got started to flake on the red color pretty early.i was pi.....but all you can do is a repaint or get a used one from ebay

Yeah, I'm a little worried that any die cast shield would be too heavy for an older figure that wasn't built to hold up a metal shield.
