Doesnt seem too bad on mine. I honestly wouldnt even have noticed if I didnt see the discussion in here about it :D

Just got mine and it has it, but yeah it's very subtle. I definitely wouldn't have really noticed.

Seems like most if not all have it (to varying degrees) - my guess is it's either intentional or a flaw/error in the mold where the left leg attaches.

It's a very nice figure. Haven't played with the electronics yet.

Ordered from TW, haven't received notice yet, they bill about 2 weeks before shipping out.

Just got mine. His left leg *could* be like ... a half mm off kilter? Only if you really look for it.

It?s a really nice figure, haven?t had a chance to do much with it yet. I had the SSC and the HT TFA version; I like this one best. Although identical to the TFA besides all the accessories it has a nicer finish and weathering IMO.

This thing has more, and more varied, batteries than I recall from any 1/6 collectible. It needs 11 button batteries of three different types placed in four different battery compartments.:slap I keep a fair few button batteries on-hand but I'm off to the store to get more for this fig.

The things that I like best about this fig vs the SSC are it's slightly larger, has slightly more accurate detailing (though I still hate the undersized light-up "eye" in the blue rectangle on the HT - it's part of R2's face,) and obviously the metal dome.

The SSC to HT improvement isn't as great as I thought it would be, though my SSC does have the rubbing alcohol wipe-down on the dome to make it more metallic/reflective and that alone hugely improves the fig.

I would argue the SSC holds up pretty well to this figure. The most obvious difference is the brighter body white and the deeper, more intense blue of the HT, which I do love. Side by side, they both look like quite convincing life-size R2s shrunken down.

And this HT R2 I think is superior to the earlier HT TFA version because that earlier one's white body had a sort of pee-yellow tinge to it This one feels much more correct as a brighter white.

I more or less agree, but rank the SSC lower only because I can't get past the duller finish. HT's just has depth from the metal and the blue paint they used. Totally agree on TFA vs. Deluxe.

I have this on my desk with his ESB scanning dish deployed and it looks like he rolled off the movie screen. Very satisfying little piece. Now I'm really curious to see how they'll do with an OT Threepio, which is quite overdue from them...along with about a dozen other things so there's that.

I also have the SS one but I'm so eager to get the HT. Not looking forward to adding all those batteries.

Can you tell us what the 4 separate functions are for the 4 compartments?

Hit the SSC dome with a light wipe of rubbing alcohol - makes a world of difference. I'd argue it looks a bit more like metal than the HT dome (which in dimmer lighting at first glance appears to be grey with a high-gloss clear coat,) but the HT dome has that subtle machined lines look that really sells it as R2's dome and also reflects more like the real R2 dome.

I do love the HT blue - more than any one single thing at first glance, it sells it immediately as onscreen R2.

The dome has two compartments (I assume sounds and lights) then the hand remote has a compartment, then the little hologram base has another compartment. No idea why they chose to go with three different button battery types.

[...]

I remember that mod but can't remember if I actually did it. Been a while, and that R2 is long gone.

I think you're gonna love it. It's very well done to the point where it seems there's not much to say about it. I'm satisfied.

I should add -- same deal with this as TFA R2 ... don't extend the 3rd leg all the way. Most of the way down and pose carefully. Way more screen accurate.

Thanks for that.

Excellent, that's most encouraging.

Now if HT would get on with some 3PO...

Yeah, I can understand that. It's a nice upgrade, but it's not as night and day and I thought it would be.

The Sideshow is serviceable but I feel like the HT is a very substantial upgrade. Just the metal dome alone makes it worth it. The Sideshow version is nice to have to display drink tray R2 but beyond that I wouldn't be able to live with the Sideshow knowing that the HT exists.

Yeah, I'm somewhere in between - I really like the new fig, there's a ton of little improvements across the board (and the crisp white and strong/deep blue I love) but for me the surprise in comparing the two is a new appreciation for the SSC R2, which has been seriously maligned since release and I assumed would be a parts bin item after this. I've had the two figs sitting on my desk side-by-side for the past day or so and it does hold up to my eye - like 9.5/10 vs 8/10, not the 6/10 I expected in comparison.

I will say that the HT fig is somewhat heavier, more solid/sturdy feeling (both of which translate as "quality") figure. As all the flak on the SSC R2 has pointed out, it's a lightweight, somewhat flimsy/flippy figure (which translates to "cheap".) The HT metal dome is really cool and adds to the quality feel, but I do wish I could unsee that undersized "eye" on the front. The SSC one got that right.

But yeah, I'm doing some custom astromechs so I may repaint one of my SSC R2s as Jabba's droid or maybe a dirtied **** version, and keep one as drinks tray R2, or repaint both. I'm doing the black-head R5 and clear-head R2 from Hoth, so may need the bodies.

I did some quick measurements to quantify how much larger the HT is vs the SSC - the dome diameter is 77.5mm vs 75mm on the SSC, the overall shoulder-to-shoulder width is 104mm vs 101mm on the SSC and the overall height (three leg mode) is 178mm vs 172mm for the SSC. The height of both the white body and the dome appears about the same on both (the legs/feet line up slightly differently, accounting for the overall height differences.)

The dome diameter difference doesn't sound like much, but it makes him seem a bit fatter, and other than the deeper blue (it's really a 100% perfect match to the "enhanced" blue seen in the later blu-rays) that's the key thing I like about this new HT R2. The SSC feels just a tad too skinny.
