Some people like subtle and understated menace. Just as some don't prefer Vader slicing and dicing his way through Rebel fleet troopers in Rogue One -- it's just a stylistic preference.

The Vader vs Rebels scene in RO was a dream come true. Its been IMO the best thing Disney's put out thus far with their SW franchise. They really should just make a Vader movie already, before James Earl Jones passes. Have it take place between ANH & ESB or between ESB & ROTJ. They recast Solo & Lando so they can recast Luke and Leia too. Vader is the Chosen One, that means his skills with a lightsaber should be as brutal and grandiose as they were in that scene.

As for Palpatine's speed in Revenge of the Sith, like the Chosen One, he's basically the ultimate Sith Lord (now we know after watching Rise of Skywalker). So the guy should be pretty insane with a lightsaber too. Never understood people that were surprised he was a powerful swordsman. Why wouldn't he be? He's the guy who trained Maul who was an awesome swordsman. I love how quickly he killed the three Jedi Masters who came with Windu and how he kept Windu busy until he sensed Anakin arrive and threw away his lightsaber to fake vulnerability. I also love how Yoda actually gave him a good fight and both their lightsabers were lost in the duel.

Wish I hadn?t missed out on this guys regular version. I just can?t imagine ever using the throne.

I liked Senator Palpatine from PT, but Darth Sidious was too fat. Understandable considering the age of McDiarmid in ROTJ when he was thin compared to ROTS period. Like Bebe said above the ROTJ Emperor is like an evil ancient entity, not entirely human. For me sinister doesn't necessarily mean moving fast like a ninja. You can also understand the power of the Emperor from the simple discussion Jerjerrod had with Vader: "The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am".

Yeah, McDiarmid was then an actual middle aged man, and while not actually fat or anything, he simply wasn't a skinny 30something anymore. Which wasn't helped at all by the fact the PT makeup was thick foam latex pieces. The ROTJ makeup was much thinner and more subtle, the biggest piece being the forehead prune.

One of my favourite Sideshow figures was the Palpatine 2 pack from ROTS, unfortunately I can't see HT doing the same.

I have that 2 pack! Remember getting it right about a year after Revenge of the Sith came out. The sculpts are awful, as most sculpts were back then.

Maybe HT will do the same and sell them together with unscarred Palpatine exclusive to the set (like BR Bruce Wayne). They still have so many PT figures left to do. Aside from both Palpatine figures, from ROTS I want Windu and the three Jedi Masters Sidious kills. And ROTS Yoda. And Ki-Adi-Mundi.

I have Anakin already and have Obi-Wan on pre-order.

I would purchase a 2 pack!
Same! Palpatine needs more figures. He's the star of the Saga and his role in ROTS makes me keep coming back to that film 15 years later. I'd love the human version and the Sith version of him again. I had the 2 pack, but sold it a few years ago.

Funny how the now 9 movie saga has Palpatine as the main stayer. If you only regard the OT it's still Vader and Luke's story, but now that it's all said and done the emperor is the red thread throughout, it's unintentionally brilliant just like McDiarmid's performances.

I just rewatched the PT for the first time in a while and I think Mcdiarmid's performance was really hammy especially as the Emperor, I might get a Senator/Chancelor Palpatine figure but I don't really care for a PT Emperor. I think he was kind of similar in TROS, but his ROTJ performance was great.

I think people tend to confuse ham with crazy. The extent of his evil is finally unleashed during that fight with Yoda. He had to basically hide his true self and desire to murder the Jedi for decades. I love that moment when he slowly approaches Yoda's knocked out body "I have waited a long time for this moment my little green friend. At last the Jedi are no more." And then he cackles. This thing is evil, and its triumphant now. It won't be understated anymore. Its going to be loud and furious and sadistically happy during its attempts to kill the Grand Master of the Jedi.

As soon as Yoda escapes, the crazy tones down. So its not ham in my opinion, just wish fulfillment by a monster who's had to pretend to be a good friend to the people he hates more than anything for a really long time.

McDiarmid is excellent in that movie. He elevates the material and steals every scene he's in.

Thanks. For me camp/ham is Eddie Redmayne in Jupiter Ascending. Or Arnold in B&R. Or Tommy Lee in Batman Forever.

Sidious just seemed nuts to me. A maniacal murdering psychopath that sadly got the upper hand on the Jedi Order.

The way he orders Anakin to kill Dooku is disturbing. He looks thrilled while he says "Kill him. Kill him now." Its perverse.

Yes, I love that Dooku scene because he finally slips up. He can't contain his excitement and can't wait to have his prize. When he fights Yoda, he is having the time of his life and just relishing his power. He tosses the senate fixtures around like toys and his laugh echoes throughout. Such a wonderful scene.

I just got this figure. Can someone clarify which stitches are the ones owners like to remove? Is there a pic or video showing exactly what I should snip? I dont wanna just dive in on this thing with some snippers not knowing what I'm doing.

In my personal experience the 2 lateral stitches from inside are the most important, they make the hood look perfect after being removed. Maybe the one in the back too, only if it keeps the hood in covering the face properly. You need to work carefully and under good light, because it is black on black and you don't want to mess up. Take your time, in the end the figure will look great.

This picture looks good but would look even better/natural if those guards were not standing on Stands.

I use the stands because I don't want the figures to fall. Some day I might buy clear stands, but till then the HT stands are here to stay

I generally like to use the generic oval stands. They’re flatter and smaller, and you can simply rotate the stand to get the figure posed at the specific angle you want.
