Hot Toys Sandtrooper and Dewback 1/6

I just watched MRCcollectionventures’ video, and wow, there were a lot of loose items. The backpack piece, one of the optics, and a button on the shoulder pouch were all unglued.

This is just a Mando style Dewback with a slightly undersized ANH head plopped on. HT got burned by all the unsold Blurrgs so did a few OT tweaks to the Mando Dewback sculpt, so to me it doesn't suggest a HT Jabba or Tauntaun is on the way, as stunningly cool as that would be.


Yeah it's the same unfortunately. Key problem with HT sandie sculpt is the "nose" (area above mouth grill) is larger than the "chin" (area below mouth grill) whereas they should be the same.

Also the white pauldron is supposed to be a bit longer, hang lower and have distinct flat segments, not just be a curved flat like HT's. This is my custom Dewback's rider where I tried to match the screen look as best I could.

Could you post more shots of your custom? Looks great!
And what pauldron did you use on yours?

Would they ever do a Probe Droid lol???

Unlikely outliers would include Dak, Veers, the medical droids and Han and Luke’s inside looks.

I think getting a Tauntaun (or anything else Hoth) is entirely dependent on whether they can get approval to make another Han figure. Without an ESB Han they probably doesn't see the point in doing any of it.

Honestly, for a ESB display, I think I'd put Bespin Han with Hoth Leia... and Luke and Taun Taun on top of the detolf.

No Bespin Han hasn't stopped HT from making Bespin figures.


What would kill Taun Taun would be if this Dewback didn't sell as well as they hoped.

The mouth is now painted much darker/black as well, which seems to frame the face differently.

That and the weathering are likely what made it look different. I didn't think tweaking it was likely for HT but it does look different in some shots; this explains why.

Been a while since SSC re-issued theirs. The SSC was excellent so the only things I could see being improved would be build quality (Diecast parts? Like K2SO?) and paint apps, as the SSC weathering wasn't terrible but had lots of room for improvement.

The sculpt is the same as far as I can tell.

Yeah, after looking at a review and several photos I now see that it is.

Amazing how close they came with this one, but ... no cigar.

I’m doing my part. I managed to grab the 2-pack before they sold out. A taun taun that isn’t contorted and that is flocked would be wild.

And what about a HT Bantha…? Have the Freaks ruled on the plausibility of that beast? I’d love one with an OT Tusken Raider.

I love this Sandtrooper w/ Dewback but not for me.. I’m actually thinking of grabbing the MMS268 Stormtrooper 2-pack set

I think you start to get into Rancor territory with a Bantha. Smaller yes, but still way too big for a reasonable price and ship.

I would like to see Jabba long before a Bantha.

Can't believe the radio silence on this release - one video and nothing more? Kind of weird.

$750+ is a lot of cheddar. It's a big space-hog of a piece as well. Another aspect is HT continuing to nurture a new generation of clone-a-holics with a quick succession of increasingly priced troopers & vehicles that eat space and wallets.

Plus, this set's main appeal is going to be older collectors who remember this beast being featured in some of the earliest images seen from the original movie.

And the unpredictable release schedule doesn't help. Heck, I have this ordered and probably won't see it for another three months.

I guess nobody Asian got this. Even MCR said it wasn’t his set, he borrowed it for the review. I’m sure jedha and Justin will have a review up soon. That will sell this set for me or convince me to cancel. Four or five years ago, this would be a no brainer for me, but space and my desire to keep collecting are at an all time low.

I haven’t picked mine up yet, need to clear space first. The small living spaces in HK and China are a real issue with something of this size. You can get the HT 89 Batmobile for dirt cheap in HK second hand as people don’t have space to keep them. There’s no market for them. Blurg was the same, seen it go for under 100 USD.
