Nice quickie review ZE_501! :goodpost:
is it difficult to remove the foam inside the pauldron? I prefer it.

looks like I can't delay getting a sand trooper. I wants that retail price as much as possible.

Yep, I could imagine these selling out fairly quickly and becoming pricey(er) in the aftermarket. (With or without variants being announced, as they'd be at least a year away and the orange pauldron seems to me the most iconic and essential of the three colours.) I can see I'm talking myself into a second but will hold firm! Burn in hell, ZE!!! :lol

thats the thing with troopers. you just cannot have just one.......

I'm going to go for another for sure. I'm sticking to just baddies so its ok.........im not, repeat not looking at the han and chewie figures at all. absolutely not considering them or luke....or kenobi.

just baddies.

Great pic's everyone, this guy is just amazing! Still, I can't resist doing some mods. :) I'm converting the pack to the MEPD "pack #4" configuration for a black pauldron-ed corporal. Here's the trooper I'm going for from MEPD.net:

The pack broken down and drilled out to swap component placement....

Basic assembly. There should only be four tubes, which will be painted grey.

I redid/added some weathering and will do more once I finalize the setup. He'll also need another 3-cell ammo pouch.

No worries, thank you! It's easy, just very permanent and a bit invasive. You need to cut a slit in the nylon backing under the pauldron; then reach in and yank out the foam padding insert. The insert will almost certainly tear. The pauldron will remain a bit stiff but more pliable after that. I did this with my spare black pauldron from the Shadow Trooper; will leave my current orange pauldron stock but will likely do the mod on a parted out one.

On screen, the pauldrons had varying degrees of give and/or padding.

Excellent scratch-building as usual, brentce. I've spent a long time combing the MEPD costume reference library; I love that you're re-creating S.W.A.T. level in 1/6! :rock

I used to have a couple of Marmits configured to screen-accurate; will likely do it again with Hot Toys at some point but you've raised the bar -- your scratch-built pack is exceptional!

So I was out for work all evening. Came home and been checking out the new acquisition, thinking maybe the awe will wear off.

Nope.

Who knows what the future holds...this helmet sculpt used for:

  • ESB Stormtroopers
  • ANH Variants
  • Rogue One Stormtroopers(?)

Game over. It'll shoot my "minimalist" collecting habits to hell.

But if nothing else comes down the pipe to match this, (based on my personal tastes, of course) I could "retire" happy.

I'm really curious as to the process HT used to come up with this sculpt. The way it's so close yet slightly idealized...even seeming to carry a hint of asymmetry...it makes me think they sculpted it like a face rather than like armour, and hit the likeness in most of the sweet spots.

Given their love of variants and that copper-rose gold trooper they've unleashed...I'm not too worried...they're bound to release the other Sandtroopers; so no need to go too crazy on these. I'll pick up a second, and down the line I may grab more parts for bashing and customizing, but I can wait for the rest.
